Abandoned van ?

Many years ago UK citizens would take their UK registered vehicles to their european holiday homes and leave them there with no tax etc, don't think you can get away with that now, but saying that there enough EU registered vehicles over here that have been here for years.

In theory you could wing it. Maybe he has a deal with the local Marie and just leaves it there out of season. As far as DVLA know its off the road and sorned. No MOT though would invalidate any insurance I would think if you had a prang possibly. I once forgot to MOT my van on a long Euro Trip. It ran out half way through and so did the tax. I just sorned it and carried on. I booked an MOT for our return and drove the 320 miles oop North for that, got it tested and taxed the next day. Dodgy I know but its doable.

The information on the DVLA site says manufactured in 1996 but first registered 2010, so presumably imported to UK. With a bit of searching on Google, I found that it had been advertised on Facebook and Ebay in August 2021.

You have too much time on your hands Paul 🤭

For the year of the Flair, I reckon engine would toil to pull the skin of a kipper.

Nah it would be ok. My Kontiki was 1996. Yeah it would struggle on long uphill motorway drags down below 60-50 but it was ok. Once you get to mountain passes its all second gear anyway. An extra ton of weight though if fully laden. The 2.8 was supposedly better.

Only while I'm waiting to go to my house in the Charente. I'm in Bagnols-sur-Cèze at the moment my winter watering-hole, having recently returned from a very wet six weeks in the UK.

This "abandoned van" spiked my interest. I have been thinking about upsizing my van recently. Although happy with the current one, I am forseeing the possibility of holidaying with grandchildren.

I should have said struggle on some of the loooooooooooooooooong hills endured while touring France, and elsewhere, especially fully laden.

Nice down in the Gard region, Paul. Where abouts in Charente are you heading?

Still here at home, waiting to see how things pan out with the Middle East war, yes fuel expensive, can bite the bullet with that, it is in the event of fuel shortages that concern me, along with Bea's required meds running out.
