I hope someones got the knowledge for this. My transit conversion with fibreglass hightop is lined with corduroy carpet. During this hot weather the glue is melting and the carpet is falling down. I've got it held up with ceiling props, which don't look so good.

So, what type of glue would you recommend to stick carpet to fibregalss? It's quite a large area (about 2 sg metres).

Thanks fo any help

A good quality contact adhesive is used within the marine industry for similar fabrics.

I will second that contact adhesive is the stuff, but if you have glued the carpet straight to the ceiling in full sun this might not be enough. Perhaps lining the van first will help.

I find spray adhesive as used by carpet fitters works well. Cut with stanley knife and peel back........hey presto

Tubes of Wickes Forget Nails - Ultimate Strength (£6.99) have been excellent for me. Carpet remains secure and doesn't stretch. Apply liberally, spread it around and it's sticks like ...well, you know what to a blanket!

the usual spray type of glue will do .but make shure to clean any old loose stuff of first you can use evo stick but beware to have the windows or doors open when you are doing the job or you will end up as high as a kite :D:D

I am a flooring contractor and installing carpets is part of my work.
The spray adhesive if used should be sprayed onto both surfaces to seal them and allowed to dry. Dont inhale this or get it in your eyes! Then both surfaces should be lightly sprayed again and the contact made. I would expect the weight and gravity of carpet on a roof to cause the contact to fail after a few months or a year unless it is very light material.
I use Balls F3 for any such work. It is applied with a 3mm notched trowel to the surface, not the carpet, and allowed to nearly dry before applying the carpet. This glue is messy to use, but once stuck it is permanent. It is only available through the trade. Hope this helps.

I have a transit but the roof is insulated and wood lined , covered with very thin cord type carpet although it has no foam backing on it.

I used high temp spray adhesive off fleabay.

I have also used it to glue carpet directly to parts of the metal side of the van and on the wooden paneling.

Its been on over a year no sign of peeling and hasnt fallen off. unlike the crap B&Q stuff.

But it was expensive but well worth the Extra cost - Only had to do the job once.:) .

Its called

TRIMFIX

Its high temprature spray glue

It definatly worked for me and I would use it anytime. :)
