Whenever I see converted Luton’s I wonder about weight, really very easy to go massively overweight with these especially over the rear axle if the vans only plated at 3500kg. Have you weighed it fully loaded specifically doing each axle individually?

Unless the reg number is wrong in the photo, the DVLA records for this vehicle seem a bit odd, loads, loads of missing info including the tax status, emissions and revenue weight.

In fact there’s so much missing info the scam congestion zone checkers won’t work so my advice is never enter any of the congestion zones because you won’t know if you need to pay or not. Ditto (because the revenue weight is missing) you may find you can’t pay by reg number or worse will get a subsequent pcn in some car parks that ban vans plated over 3500kg

I suggest you get the missing info sorted by the dvla asap.

Hi Thistle. The weight is right on the edge (under on the front, slightly over on the back), but you are correct - the more space you have the more places to store stuff! We are in the process of up plating (probably to 4.2T). I'm getting 5Tn air bags fitted to the rear to help with that.
As for the DVLA info missing that may be something to do with the fact that we have private plates, as the photo is from last year I think. If there's a problem I'm sure the DVLA will let us know when we up plate.
We will avoid emission zones anyway where possible - it's a Mk3 Master so is a Euro 5.

Ha ha, thanks Sharon. We took Charlie up Pen-Y-Fan in Brecon yesterday. Little legs and a heart condition meant he had to go in his doggie back pack for a part of the way but he did really well, bless him. He's nearly 11 as well!

Lol. It is unusual for sure. Got it on Etsy if anyone's interested. Seemed appropriate. The outside was like that when we bought it and the inside was pretty untouched as well. Whatever it was used for by the one previous owner it wasn't heavy duty lugging.

I've seen Narrow Boats fitted with the curved walkway you have used and it seems to be a very good use of space.

Thanks Rob. We wanted to use curves as everyone seems to use square edges - and yes I understand why. It was a great idea until it came to actually making it happen with no carpentry skills.

Upplatings definitely worth doing, taxation class changes to PHGV and VED drops to £171but you won’t be able to pay online or when required to enter the vrm in some car parks.

As euro V it may have been exempt from some zones as an LGV but will not as a PHGV.
I got stung £100 in Portsmouth in my uplated Crafter!

Stick your current reg in here https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax
Make sure the emission info, Euro status, revenue weight and vehicle type fields etc are correct and match the info on the V5. They were all missing using the reg in the picture

Do the same with the various congestion zone checkers once uplated.

I work on lots of ex Ambulances which are notorious for being badly registered by the converters when new and this often causes weeks even months of headaches for the new owners who sadly often buy them without checking the V5 first. It’s amazing how many people buy them whilst wearing rose tinted specs without checking the vehicle type, emissions and plated weight which can be missing on the V5 most ambulances are usually >3500kg and many buy without even having a C1 licence!

I'm in the process of refitting my 2012 Renault Master extra high top after a roof leak ruined the ceiling and that meant to replace it cupboards and the shower etc had to come out first.

The taper of the sides and the protruding brackets holding the GRP roof on make it a fitters nightmare. In fact when I bought the van I approached a couple of companies to get it fitted out professionally - when they heard it was the extra high top they declined to do the conversion and wished me luck.

So I'm doing it myself again, very unprofessionally!

I spent effectively 2 years eliminating water leaks from the iveco I am converting, the combination of honeycomb polypropylene, aluminium exterior skin and inappropriate adhesives the original converter used didn’t help!

It was my fault really. When I put the new solar panels on it was difficult to seal the bolts through the Unistrut bars. Having taken out the ceiling now though I have been able to re-seal from the inside with copious amounts of Sikaflex. I also plan to pour some liquid rubber through the Unistruts and over the bolt heads just to make sure but I'm pretty sure they won't leak now and I have tested them quite heavily.
