Hi Campers,

Just a little moan about Swift Motorhome designers,do you think any of them use or test the vans they design. For starters Electrics, they only put two three pin plugs on the right hand side of the van so you have to trail leads across to cook on the door side. 2.they put the fuse box with the Battery charger, water heater and Truma electric heater switches under the bench seat and its a pain to get to them and of course you can't use it for much storage as i think the unit needs some ventilation around it.
Next the shower and toilet room are a good size but the sink is placed in the corner by the entrance door with two large mirrors but if you want to look in to one of them to shave you have to stand in the doorway crazy design or lack of it.3.Water and waste tanks are much to small.
Ok end of Moan,Snowbirds crossed in to Denmark yesterday pictures to follow.:baby::baby::idea::idea:

..

It's a SWIFT what do you expect. Of course they don't use them themselves they have more sense.

..

The microwave on ours would not work unless the MH was absolutely level
Electric gremlins
Exhaust that you caught as it was so low
Useless reversing camera
Doors that didn't fit
Bits falling off
Fancy overhead locker doors that chipped when caught with a finger nail.

Glad to see the back of it ..

Don't know how many WC members there are , or how many look in [cheapskates] but maybe when something like this comes up we should invite the manufacturers/dealers to comment ? AIB seem to think its worth their while . I appreciate there are a lot of you clever/handy DIYers out there but I think we should try and use our clout for these situations

You should try the Swift site. If you want to comment how GREAT they are it's fine. Everything else is REMOVED which just goes to show how interested they really are. I complained about ours and membership was terminated. Not really surprising as the list of faults was a couple of sides of A4.

The runners on the pan drawer in my MH were held on with 3x 8mm screws each runner, lasted just over a year before they fell off. I have re-fixed using 9x 10mm screws each runner. Why couldn't they do that? There was also a silly, useless & pointless wall panel fixed for decorative reasons only where 1x screw had come adrift leaving a hole larger than the screw in the chipboard [hate that stuff], I had to wallplug it before re-screwing.
Mines a Renault Rimor, if I was younger, fitter, cleverer etc I would do a self build in a classic van.

Hi Mate,

But you Escaped in you new Pilote Motorhome, i can't escape from my Escape.:mad1::mad1:

Hope you well regards Snowbirds.:wave::wave:

Hi alcam,

I was a member of the Swift talk site and made a few comments about going up to Hull after the third useless control panel on my van had failed in under three years and of course their Italian supplier had gone broke and they had go over to using Sargents panels.I wanted to meet their new MD with a few other poor punters who had bought their vans and were having a lot of problems but i was told on line from them in very direct terms not to make threats.
They only what you to post pretty pictures of you caravan with the dog or the wife saying how marvellous they are so i can only warn people of their shortfalls.

Snowbirds.

Weight .. Every little screw adds more. Our SWIFT was held together with tiny screws and panels that were glued to each other. Only problem was that the paper finish on the panels comes away with the glue.

New MH much better but still a couple of issues that are now sorted. Lots of things held on with Velcro so easy to remove and refit bits. It's just to much trouble to take it back for minor faults.

If you think Swift are bad you`d better not look closely at any Compass / Elddis ones then :mad2:

This along with a friends experience of Autotrail and i`ll never touch another British van again.

The electric 230v sockets in my Swift have been fitted so close to the work surface/floor that you can't put in a plug that has the lead coming out of the bottom, so I have to use an adaptor in each socket - how stupid is that?

Put them on upside down or change everything to continental ones then it doesn't matter ..

No mention of "Leaky Kontiki" which is Swifts trademark.

Wints, in relation to "Classic Hymers" I was extolled the virtues by a salesman as to the quality of build which was apparent on the old model. When we came to a modern model most of these virtues had disappeared in the usual cost cutting exercise, so not a particularly good yardstick any more

At least yours are connected, 1 of mine was just the socket no wiring no nothing :scared:

That's one of the main reasons will built one rather than buying.

The latest seem to be something of an exercise in cramming as many things as possible into the space with no regard for use. Plus am I the only person who marvels at what is referred to as worktop space these days?

See what you mean. One guy has spent over 6 months trying to get his NEW caravan repaired. It needed a new roof amongst other things. I think I would have returned it as not fit for purpose. Dealer must have known what it was like.

We meet one couple in Rye with a caravan. It was the third Bailey they had had. Wife says she hoped this one ias going to be better than the other two. I asked the guy why he didn’t get something else and he just said the place he stores it only sells Bailey’s and they can fix it without him having to take it to them as it’s on site.

Easy to say 'nobody buy Swifts' ! Doesn't help those with problems . Maybe we should approach all manufacturers and judge them on their responses ?
