Ok I know some on here hate campsites, and that’s absolutely fine.
I know it’s a strange thing to photograph, but the facilities at the CCC site Braithwaite Village in the Lake District are quite simply superb. Here’s a photo of the toilets with marble surround wash hand basins, the largest shower cubicles I have ever seen, and private cubicles for shaving etc. The whole site is minted, and in a cracking location surrounded by hills. There is a lovely three mile walk along footpaths and quiet roads to Keswick, and other walks from the site. What did we pay as ACR members last week. Well for hard standing with EHU £22.40 a night. Honest I am not on commission. :ROFLMAO:

When we passed it a couple of times in the Autumn it was crammed. Same with the C&MC site oddly named Braithwaite fold just outside Bowness on Windermere. I enquired about that one just out of curiosity, rode up to the reception. Fully booked but the warden reckoned £30-£40 a night depending on what days you book so it sounds like you did quite well Bill for the lakes at that price. Off there on Thursday to Rusland near Windermere.

It would obviously be more expensive in summer Barry. But being north of 60 we are ACR members and get the usual 20% plus an additional 10%. So non members would have paid around £30 a night. But I reckon even that is well worth it, it’s a cracking site. The wardens are great, and really helpful too. We preferred the winter visit to the summer visit. The site was only about 1/5th full, and Keswick was much quieter. When we go back next time we intend to visit other parts of the Lake District.

Barry I just checked it for May next year for us as ACR members.

£30.23 a night.

Its not cheap to stop anywhere in the Lakes really. We will be using the two CL sites we used in the Autumn for Christmas and New Year although one is selling up in January but they think it will continue. £18 and £15 including EHU. Thats as cheap as you will find now with hookup there for sure. I wont stop on a site if I can at all avoid it. Its not the money, just dont like them but I kind of have a bit of a block of spending more than £20 a night as I never use the facilities.

The toilet block layout is very similar to Sands at Gairloch.

Is it a bit noisy with the A66 so close by?

Cheers

H
No it’s not, but I suppose it would depend what part of the site your are pitched. But we were closer to the A66 in summer and had no issues. The A66 does not run alongside the the camp site. It actually turn right past it, so it’s a fair distance from it. The site is in the village itself.

I'm impressed Bill and we will use that site either on our way to or on our way back from Scotland in January. We usually have a day or two in the lakes on our trips.

Thanks for the tip.

Many years back i was one of the first into the newly refurbished ablutions block at the C.C. ( as it was then ) Ferry Meadows site :)

They had management and the wardens knocking about outside asking questions of what we thought of it when we came out ?

Didn`t go down well when i asked if this is where all the exhorbitant fees were going after paying for the top of the range Mercedes parked right outside reception that management had turn up in, they declined to answer then so did i and just walked off o_O

Later that day we had one of the wardens having a good look at how we was pitched, i went out and asked if he`d like to borrow a tape measure to ensure that i`d pitched squarely and kept to the firebreak distance rule, he just walked off

Come on Graham, you are surely not that naive.
The last time someone asked me what I thought of the toilets on my way out had ulterior motives, he wasn’t looking at how you were pitched, he was just looking. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I'm always impressed by the facilities on the site at Rothiemurchus near Aviemore, one of our favourite stopovers.

It's a stunning woodland site where you can see Deer, Red Squirrels and if you are lucky enough Pine Martens. The toilet/shower block is always lovely and warm in Winter and there are stunning walks into the Lairig Ghru which starts at the campsite.

Whats happened to you all!! I thought this was the rufty tufty rock n roll Wildies forum! You will all be writing letters to the C&MC magazine next telling people how the wardens at your favourite club site are your bessie mates and how you would willingly sell your house and give away all your money to help the club!

I think Phil should ban this thread before someone from Motorhome Fun sees it and they all start laughing at us.
