I now have a Thetford toilet with a dedicated flush tank which I know nothing about. I used to put detergent liquid in the cassette but what do I put in the flush tank if anything? I vaguely remember talk about black bits blocking the flush tank or am I mistaken.

Not sure but i would still go with bio powder as long as it wont corrode the flush motor.

I used to add Pink stuff to the flushing tank.
Then my pump got clogged up by the dreaded black bit.
I cleaned the pump; flushed the tank; and now put just water in the flush tank.
No more black bits.

Few points
a) I always drain the flush tank if the MoHo is not going to be used for a while.

b) Don't use your (or sites) fresh water hose to fill the flush tank,

c) You need to put something in the cassette. I prefer the sachets, a little more expensive but much more convenient.

You dont need to put anything in the flush tank. A lot of vans like mind dont have a separate flush tank anyway. I just put either the blue stuff or the green stuff in from motorhome dealers in the cassette. Despite the success others have had with other stuff I personally have never found anything that works as good as the proper stuff.

Well that all sounds good, another useless product crossed off my list. I have no paper work with the van to speak of so if someone can tell me how to empty the flush tank I would be grateful, just Hooe it’s not continuously pressing the flush for 50 times

Look where you fill it outside. On my old Kontiki that used to have a separate flush tank you just pulled the rubber hose from under the filler tank and let it dangle and it all drained out. I only ever drained it over winter though when parked up to stop it freezing.

I don't have a flush tank so can't add anything to it 🤡

But .... when I DID have one, I stopped adding stuff in it but instead used a Spray with an additive, namely this one - https://amzn.to/3Go2Jle.
Does the same job but doesn't provide a home for black bits :D I use that in the current motorhome and it seems to do what it is supposed to (y)

Second vote for a spray bottle with diluted pink stuff to scoosh round the bowl after use.
No additives for the cassette, just emptied virtually every day.
I'm another empty and fill at every opportunity person.

The only time I had a problem with black stuff forming in the flush tank was when I had added the pink stuff they sell to put in it!
As for the cassette, we've only used Bio washing liquid for years, works ok for us.
As for the blue stuff, it contains formaldehyde and is not allowed to be used in many sites that are not on main sewers. .
Formaldehyde is also a known carcinogen, should have been banned altogether years ago

No longer true.

Removed by both Elsan and Thetford many years ago.
I wasn't aware of that. I knew that elsan market a "formaldehyde free" version, but didn't realise it completely replaced the original

Having searched for Elsan Blue, it appears that as well as the one clearly labelled as "formaldehyde free", there also a version called BLU04 which nowhere (particularly Elsan) seems to be keen to list its component chemicals. However, Amazon sell it, with a warning that it may be carcinogenic

It appears that BLU04 simply means that is a 4 litre container. It is the original blue Elsan, also available in 25 litre drums. The listing Here has a download information sheet which shows that the product contains formaldehyde

Normally, I'd advise just water, but if black bits are appearing,I'd put a liitle white vinegar in.
Mine uses the main water supply. I'd not put anything in there.

Problem with emptying every day is the breakdown of mater does not happen, it takes days to work, esp if using bio tabs as i do, but then again we try to use public loos or ones in eateries/cafes.

Thanks David, just ordered a couple of these.

I don’t know what you lot are eating (and I don’t want to know), but our £$%^ breaks down very quickly.

On mine the little level sight tube unclips by pulling it down slightly and then out at the top which allows you to drain the tank
