Normally automatics are not towed with their driven wheels on the road, overheats the gearbox?

Check with the manufacturer of your chosen car, for their advise.

:(:(:(

car

We tow a Toyota Aygo. No Problems what so ever. A frame from Tow-Cars -To- Tow Bars At Grimsby. Brill guys.

Sell Smart and motorhome, loadsa money in bank, easy

Now buy small 4x4, and a caravan and solve the vast majority of your problems!!

Tried reversing the current Mh with the Smart behind.................???

:scared:

Usually automatic cars cannot be towed but tiptronic boxes can, the best thing would be to find the car you are interested in but before purchasing contact the manufacturer

As already said unless it has tiptronic box do not tow it you will wreck the box and before that the drive shafts will scream out please stop before vacating there socket and dumping there inards all over the road puts too much strain on them something to do with it being an auto i guess the only real way would be to use a dolly so the driving wheels are off the road

I know it's extra expense but have you looked at getting a trailer instead of the A frame.

I am not sure about that Helen..I could be wrong but many auto boxes have tiptronic capability, its just a couple of flaps behind wheel doing the same electronics as the gearstick in an auto..

but, EGS (or similar) boxes, which i think are a very strange idea, may be ok to be towed.. these are manual boxes with a robotic shifter..

Full Auto boxes need cooling from the engine cooling system when in use, therefore the engine needs to be running..

this could all be a load of cods mind :)

And the advantage is, you can reverse it and no running the gauntlet:goodluck:

Easy answer to that one, get in the car and pull the MH backwards instead.
With Smart the for two had a early gearbox which was pullable, but the later dual clutch ones cannot as the box will revolve at high speed killing it. The fourtwo will be the later gearbx. Check with Mercedes about it and I think they will say. not at all.

A frame automatic car

Nissan specifically state do not tow a vehicle equipped with cvt. This transmission is becoming increasingly popular with small cars.
Have driven several of these vehicles great except for wales gear changes at up to 5000 rpm.when on steep inclines.

Best to plan on using a trailer

Hi all
Thanks for your input still looking for the ideal auto car to tow, we are looking at the Skoda citigo
as the main contender and also the Aygo. Just to answer a few questions we are aware of trailers as a option, I have been towing on
a frames for over 12 years both manual and automatic cars, and with practice you can reverse if needed.

Many Thanks to all I am grateful for the response Vana

two other auto cars that flat tow

Hi Peter and others that are looking to flat tow a 4 seated automatic my research with your help
has turned up two cars that are suitable for me a Skoda Citigo or a Suzuki Celerio

Regards Vana

There are some small auto 4WDs that have a genuine transfer case with a neutral position that can be flat towed

Every Smart Car I have seen advertised as "spares or repair" has had a knackered gearbox, sort of suggests that the gearbox is a weak point on them.
