:confused:A frame with electronic brakes, has any one had the chance of using one over in France or Spain at all and the law problems ? , I understand that in 2014 we no longer can use the manual cable type in the u/k anymore, and I also know not in the E C but I will be wishing to take a car over the channel, I have problems walking so need to take a car with me over channel. Don’t wish to use a trailer to tow a car on, so I think my best option to buy will be A frame if I can get away with it, any help out there on my problem Please.

Check your PMs

If your thinking of coming to Spain DON,T come with an A frame they are getting hot over here towing a car with the 4 wheels on the ground, and the fine can be up to 150 euros on the spot.

All i can tell you is what has happened to me here 1st i got fined for towing with an a frame then I got a scooter rack that was EUC approved with all the the Paper work that was with it, and still told to take that of. so now if we take a car or the scooter we take the trailer some times it a pain in the Ace hole but it stops me getting pulled some turn a blind eye if your a British reg to towing but others dont, so take care .

So who ever told you can quote the chapter and verse type approval cert etc to prove its ok to use?
Its been done to death on many forums and its illegal, no matter how you do it you will breach one reg or another construction and use of a motor vehile is one such example.
People have been done and mor eand more are now stopped

Spain Instruction 08/V-74

INSTRUCTION 08/V-74 FROM THE SPANISH DIRECTOR GENERAL OF TRAFFIC RELATIVE TO MOTORHOMES

MINISTRY OF INTERIOR

Subject: Motorhomes

Instruction 08/V-74

Consultations have also been made on the possibility of a motorhome being allowed to tow a car, that possibility is prohibited by Article 9.3 of the General Rules of vehicles that will not allow circulation of a motor vehicle dragging another, except that this is damaged or broken down and cannot be towed by another specifically intended for that purpose, in which case it is allowed to tow to the nearest town or village where it can be detained without hindering the traffic and always provided they are not travelling on a motorway or highway.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the circulation of a combination composed of a motor vehicle and a trailer or semi trailer on which another vehicle is transported, is allowed if the combination meets the conditions for driving on public roads and is approved according to Directives 70/156/EEC and 94/20/EC and also does not exceed the maximum permitted length for these combinations which is that of 18.75 meters for trailers and 16.50 meters for semi trailers.

To me that is quite clear. Prohibited by Article 9.3 of the General Rules of vehicles. Only permitted IF DAMAGED OR BROKEN DOWN AND NOT ON HIGHWAY OR MOTORWAY in Spain.

think you will find the spanish doc allows you to use an aframe if its legal in your country of origin. thats how ca-a-tow cn let you have a copy of the return of fines to a british subject. i have used the said document to back up several people while in spain .its a good referance to have a copy. i have also met mr jattel that sells a frames in france. he got homolagation for them in france a few years ago. it may be caratow ones he sells i cant remember but he as sold several.

Perhaps, but isn't that document 3 or 4 years old. If so then perhaps the new configuration does comply with all EU regulations regarding braking and if so, I would have thought Spain would have to accept it.

Was talking to a Dutchman last night and he seemed to be pretty aware of new developments and he said the new configuration with electronically-controlled brakes IS (or did he mean WILL BE legal all over the EU)

{as far as using the "if it is legal in the home country ..." defence, I got the impression that this has never been tested in the UK so there is nothing written down to refer to}

If it is any consolation - in Australia, NSW has very specific regulations regarding a-framing and each different combination has to be certified as a unit (meaning can't change either towing, towed vehicle or the a-frame) while a couple of other states don't seem to give a damn - with the result that NSW inspectors are always threatening to make interstaters uncouple when the get to the border.

As of today the law in Spain is still the same they say that you are not Allowed to tow a car when the 4 wheels are on the ground That is from the traffic police in Alicante 10.30am today When my Partner Phoned them

I would have thought Spain would have to accept it.

EU legislation has to be put before the UK Parliament and they then decide to enact or reject it. Each country can accept or reject EU Parliament decisions. We are not yet a United States of Europe.
