... just wondered if any of you lovely peeps who have now converted your vans to all-electric maybe have a spare 30mm long handled gas spanner lying around no longer needed? 🙏🤞

The one we'd had for a long time got left in our previous camper when it went the journey. 🤷‍♀️:rolleyes: 😟

I need one as don't quite have the strength to turn the short-handled one we do have (well, I can if I have too, but it's a hell of a struggle...! 🤪 😄 )

I know, but I'd rather give the tenner to a member - and it means their unused spanner will be back to work again, win-win... ;)

Plus I don't use Amazon 🤷‍♀️

I'm going to Orkney for the meet in June, so maybe a pony express? I always live in hope! :)
Just got a new full gas bottle on the go - that's when I found I needed the long handled spanner! :cool: 😂

Don't have a bit of metal tubing lying around either as unfortunately not a mechanic or an engineer... ;)

It's the sort of "fix" my other half would do - which is fine if you're OK with half-a-job, but I'm like @Herbenny and a bit "extra" - OCD even! 😜🤣😎

Marie I have just replaced my gas hoses with braided metal hand tight connectors.
No need for a spanner, I have fitted them onto all of my vans over the past nine years.
Here’s a rubber one on eBay for £17.50

 
I will have a look in the garage at home. I don't think I would have left them in the van. I don't want nowt for it as I will have various 30 mm spanners in my tool boxes.

EDIT: I must have left the two I used in the van when I sold it. I have normal 30 mm open ended spanners but they may be too big to use in an enclosed space. You can still have a look at it if you like.

I was about to post, surely you've got a old tool lying about doing buggerall.
P.s. I use a hefty adjustable, to hit the gas spanner.

Need to get into the gas locker and take photos of current set up to illustrate what I mean.

If there's an easier way to do it than a gas spanner I'm all for it, Bill! (y)

Neil reckons I might not be able to tighten that sort of fitting enough by hand, but tbh I'm not sure...? 🤔

With it being rubber to metal Marie and a large wheel to give more torque you would be fine. The problem with gas lockers is they tend to be just large enough for the cylinders. I found getting the spanner in with hardly any space at the top a pain. These fittings don’t require to be as tight as the normal fittings which are brass to brass.
 
Calor use a simple push down lock fitting on there bottles over here.

I used that type in my previous van. The vertical outlet coupled with the regulator 'just' about fitted my gas locker.
Fortunately there was a mm or so to spare and coupled with the flexibility in the gas locker roof, I could just get the on/off lever flicked over.

Looks like the patio gas connection over here but don't know if it it the same. May be worth finding out if Irish folks with Calor are coming over here. If I remember I will ask Charlie next time I speak to him
 
I use this connector / hose on my caravan alongside the gaslow refillables in my caravan, all from Autogas 2000. Cannot leave the gas cylinders in situ for filling but easy task to remove them and take them for filling. I reckon they will pay for themselves within 2 years as I use the caravan approx 150 days a year. Much easier than having to use a spanner in a confined space. I have severe arthritis in both hands and can still tighten them ok.

Actually Ginge, that is your best recommendation a long handled spanner will work when the nut is tight, but once it’s loosened a bit you’ll find it hard to manoeuvre the longer handle in the space of a gas locker, but just remove the tube and it’s much easier.
