1992 Hymer 564 cylynder head gasket

Newby intro here and first posting. Me and the other half bought a Heidi, a 1992 Hymer 564 in February.

We had only had one tentative night by a lake earlier in the year, but at the back end of last month set off on our first proper trip. We had a week on a small no facilities site with friends, in Teesdale near High Force, which was great, then set off for a fortnight round the highlands. Heidi even breezed up the steep gravel track up from the site to the road, which I’d been worried about.

All was going very well indeed until…

We got as far as Pitlochry where the cylinder head gasket went. Relayed home and Heidi (or Heidimethlab as our Breaking Bad fan son calls her) is in the garage, where they’re going to start next week. Incidentally one of the Recovery drivers was a Gordon who says he posts on here – gave us loads of good tips and advice on the road – an all round good guy.

So I’m hoping I can get a point from other knowledgeable members to a gasket kit – the garage says they only know where to source part of it not the whole kit. Anyone know where one might be got? It’s the Citroen B 564 version, but the garage says the engine is the same as the Fiat Ducato based models.

Hope someone can help!

IMG_0502.jpgThere will be a plate like this somewhere on he vehicle, under the bonnet on our Hymer. Took a guess at your engine as 2.5 found this ...

cylinder head gasket Fiat Ducato 1992 290 2.5 D | eBay The B564 is referring to the Hymer model number not the engine code.

Cheers

Thanks to all who have replied so far - here's a pic of the plate in the engine compartment - I hope that that helps.

The garage had just done this job to a Hymer a few years older - they said they had difficulty, if I got this right, with the water pump and minor gaskets. I think they managed to source the main gasket, or had one. But they said could I see if I could track down a kit with all gaskets, as they're not internet savvy beyond beyond basic googling. They're not able to start work on it till the weekend so I have a bit of time in hand. They were pretty certain my engine was identical to the one which they have just done, which was not a Citroen.

Google is your friend:
VF7290G92UD229879 Citroen C25 2014 - VinDecoderz.com is a free VIN number lookup and vehicle history report provider
Gives the engine type as "2,5 L (CRD93LS)" - the number in brackets is the engine type - and engine number as "10 GJ14 0039887"

This is the same engine as a Talbot Express, Peugeot J5 (not sold in UK) and Citroen CX. It is NOT the same as the contemporary Ducato, which uses a SOFIM engine. Well, that's the official wisdom, but I've just done some work on a 1990 Ducato which has the CRD93LS motor, but perhaps it was retrofitted, who knows? It's a Peugeot engine, and there's a bit of info about it on the Talbot oc site if you've got the time to search.

Should be enough to start with. Ask the Talbot people if you're stuck - they're a mine of info on this chassis.

Also, look at Mister Auto. You don't say whether it's a turbo or not (it was an option) but here are the ones they list for the turbo:
Gasket Set, cylinder head for your CITROEN C25 Bus (280_, 290_) 2.5 D Turbo (95Hp)

And here are the ones they list for the naturally-aspirated version:
Gasket Set, cylinder head for your CITROEN C25 Bus (280_, 290_) 2.5 D (73Hp)

"Avec joint de culasse de cylindre" means "with cylinder head gasket" so that's the one you want. Probably - try putting your registration in at the home page and see if it recognises the vehicle to be sure.

Have you considered putting in some K seal/steel seal? as a quick cheap fix,I did a Shogun a few years ago and it kept running fine for a couple of years before I sold it.

Don't please. Not if you ever want to fix it properly. You can't get that sort of stuff out again and it blocks up the heater. Head gasket isn't a big job on these - it's an old fashioned pushrod engine so no need to take the belt off or time it. Couple of hours should see it off really if the head's OK. I'd do it myself but that's me.

I`ve just tried the Vindecoder site as well with my 2006 Peugeot Boxer 2.8 HDi with 63,000 miles on it.

It came back with no engine size, says it`s a 2001 vehicle and has approx 250,000 km on it :scared:

Don`t think i`ll bother with it again.

Sorry that I offended you guys by using the first VIN decoder I found. It worked for this vehicle - no idea why it didn't work for yours. You need to look in the 'extra information' which is not returned for every vehicle - the date you're looking at (OPB) IS NOT THE PRODUCTION DATE. Here it is, and it's correct for the OP's vehicle, as far as I can tell:

Maker CITROEN
Model C25
OPB 2001
Production date 01.01.1990
Producer CITROEN
Country (D)
Engine # 10 GJ14 0039887
TRN Trans box 5
Engine 2,5 L (CRD93LS)
Trim Standard
Vehicle family C25
Transmission 20 HE68 0187738
Vehicle type Wagon

Plus I linked to a supplier of the actual part the OP was looking for.

I honestly don't know why I do this - all I ever get is keyboard warriors telling me that I'm wrong and not answering the original question. I won't bother again.

Richard, please don't be discouraged - I really appreciate your taking the time to help.

Going to send the garage a link to this page - thank you ALL for being so helpful.
