10 important things.

Hi David.

I am new to this, havent been out yet, but hoping to go down to the South of France for a few months.
Was fasinated by your list, the first thing I purchased was a 2kw Honda generator for a back up, just in case, for battery charging or later possibly for a microwave.I think I will carry kitchen foil to keep the grill clean. I am not sure whether to carry a bike or not, I suppose like all these things you learn as you go along.

Kind regards

Ron.

2Kw is a pretty good size Inverter. Keep in mind the power of a unit, i.e Toaster, Microwave etc when you go through an Inverter. My experience is that the Inverter should be 2½ to 3 times more powerful that the item you plug in. For instance, Toater is 600w, you need a 1.5Kw to 2Kw inverter. If your Microwave is 800w, you need a 2Kw to 2.5Kw Inverter. I try and work with 3 times the power of the Item to play safe. I expect someone who knows more about electrics can advise you better. I have a motor bike rack on mine, but carry aliminium boxes for my spare Gas bottles and tools. Regards bikes someone will come along and advise you on that matter.

NO matter how ill you are feeling-clean the fridge out, empty the bin and loo cassette on your return home-don't leave it 4 weeks!

It was not nice in our MH yesterday!

But he's all clean and tidy for our next trip.

You are dead right. The moment I arrive, The 3 things you mentioned is done immediately. The next day the MH is absolutely empty in the living area. The 3rd day the MH is spotlessly clean inside and out and ready for the next trip, whenever. Working as a team with the Mrs, it don't take long.

What about an inflatable kayak and a fishing rod, a CD of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Atom Heart Mother.
Perhaps a bat in case someone tries to break in and rob you of your favourite possesions such as your chocolate, cans of beer The Sun tabloid etc.

Well I shall be happy to join you sir if I meet you on my travels for a tipple, if atom heart mother is on the airwaves

Loo roll

First aid kit
(restocked with plasters, aspirin, paracetamol, insect repellent, antihistimine cream / tabs, imodium etc after each use) - I carry 2 : one with contents as per St Johns / Red Cross in the cab, and one for personal use with various pills and potions in the back.
If trained in CPR, include a face shield for CPR, it's not pleasant doing CPR on someone who has vomited ... (although as of very recently, the CPR protocol has changed for those who are untrained or not confident and it is recommended that chest compressions only, ie no breaths in between the 30 compressions, are given although this advice is mainly when in urban situations where professional help can be expected quickly - in rural areas, be prepared to continue giving CPR for long periods of time before help arrives)

Besides essentials food, water gas etc my fave gadgets & toys are inverter to charge phone/laptop from leisure battery, air rifle for plinking cans and something on DVD/file to watch.......and a torch!!

For me it has to be my genny, I know not everyone will agree but the only time I needed it was when I lost my alternator and without it I was up spit creek without a paddle. It gave me power, lights and heat and allowed me to crawl home from Germany in the depth of winter. God bless you genny for saving my ass

Wilding -two mobile phones. I keep an old nokia as a backup.

"Make sure with diffident service provider sim cards"

If you dial 999 or 112 in a emergency the phone will search for any signals from any company, even if your sim's have no signal or not topped up
Even if your power is zero, some phones keep a little power for emergency calls, so I have been told..

A "just in case" stick/baseball bat (must include ball), dog chew...
My local hardware shop sells, 1 metre long dog chews, with a knot in each end, these are quite hard and solid,:hammer:
I keep 1 in the bus, and 1 in the house. Just in case.......

Seems like a generator is pretty important to a lot of people I think they are a poor thing to use and have had to shift several times to get away from people using them smell and noise from them is terrible

I got a flat battery, in the highlands, no phone signal for miles, my genny was my saviour, some things you have to just put up with when wilding, better than the sound of a yapping dog or screaming kids

I nkeep my extending wheel spanner under the driver seat. Nice tool and handy defense weapon.

oven cleaner spray has been mentioned as self defence,a copper i knew was trying to arrest a guy when he sprayed him with pledge furniture polish, this spray wax immediately hardened and shut his eyes nicely, had to be carefully removed at hospital.no harm done! try it on a member of the family to test!

I have had people park near me and start their genny to operate a washing machine and microwave television etc not for emergency use. Surely there a lot of load space for occasional emergency use.
