I’m really pleased to announce that the POI download system has now been fully updated and is live on the site.
POI Download Page:
wildcamping.co.uk
This is a fairly big behind-the-scenes change, but the benefits for you as a user are very simple and very practical.
The biggest change is that POI files are now generated live from the WildCamping.co.uk locations database at the moment you click download.
Previously, POI downloads were split by country (UK, France, Iberia, etc.) because older satnavs struggled with large files.
That’s no longer necessary.
Instead of having to download lots of separate files every time, you can now choose exactly what you need:
This new system replaces all of the old “legacy” POI files.
From now on
If you have any questions, spot anything odd, or want help choosing the right format for your satnav, just shout as usual.
Thanks for your patience — and enjoy the new setup
POI Downloads
This is a fairly big behind-the-scenes change, but the benefits for you as a user are very simple and very practical.
What’s new?
Live data – always up to date
The biggest change is that POI files are now generated live from the WildCamping.co.uk locations database at the moment you click download.
- No more waiting for “the next update”
- No more outdated files
- You always get the latest approved locations instantly
All countries combined
Previously, POI downloads were split by country (UK, France, Iberia, etc.) because older satnavs struggled with large files.
That’s no longer necessary.
- All countries are now combined into a single file per location type
- Downloads now include all Location App data, including newer worldwide locations
- Much simpler and cleaner for modern satnavs
Download only what you actually want
Instead of having to download lots of separate files every time, you can now choose exactly what you need:
- Wild Camp (overnight stopping locations)
- Pub Stops
- Toilets
- Water / Taps
- KML – Google Earth / mapping apps
- CSV (Garmin) – Garmin POI Loader
- OV2 (TomTom) – TomTom devices (icons available)
Much simpler going forward
This new system replaces all of the old “legacy” POI files.
From now on
- There’s one place to get POIs
- Files are always current
- New locations appear automatically
- No more manual monthly updates from Admin
If you have any questions, spot anything odd, or want help choosing the right format for your satnav, just shout as usual.
