I don't think it is an error. I never suggested it was, did I?

I posted about it because it is an interesting snippets of information that might be useful to others, not because I was concerned about a few quid.

I'm also interested to know whether other people's tax has been extended. Later in the week we shall find out whether the £1 renewal fee has happened. I'll be interested to know that too, even though it won't affect me at all.
We're not all Trumpishly self-obsessed.

I am charged higher rate when using French Peage due to MH height, I get around this now by letting air out of tyres before going through barrier

A phgv motor caravan should be tc10, this tax class is not included in the £1.

Worth checking as you never know ..... costs today:

What is strange is that when I tried to SORN my vehicle, the 11 digit code on the V5C was invalid. But when I try to TAX my vehicle, the same 11 digit code on the V5C was accepted.
Looks like they are happy to take your money, but don't want to hand any back!

yup, could be a lorry conversion for example. When a vehicle has a change of type, DVLA don't tend to change the tax code, so if it started as one class it will typically stay in that class, so may still be a regular HGV not a PHGV?

Well, mine was built as a motorhome, so no change of tax class ever and the tax was extended for 11 months for free.

If anyone gets their phgv motorhome tax renewal in the next year, it'd be interesting to see what it costs them.

I cancelled the DD so no payment made for July, but when I check the status, I am still taxed until April 2027?
The DVLA system actually warns again renewing tax while the vehicle is taxed, so just going by the advice provided!

I think you are heading for a world of pain with this. This is what google says

Cancelling the Direct Debit Will Not "Untax" the Vehicle

• It triggers a penalty, not a SORN: Simply stopping a bank payment does not constitute a legal declaration to the DVLA. If the DVLA attempts to draw the monthly payment and it bounces, they do not "untax" the vehicle; they flag it as an unpaid and untaxed vehicle being kept on a public highway. [1, 2]
• Automatic fines: The DVLA computer will automatically issue a £80 late licensing penalty fine.
• Clamping and prosecution: If the vehicle is parked on a public road while untaxed, it becomes liable to be clamped, towed, or impounded by DVLA enforcement contractors. you could also face court prosecution with fines up to £1,000.

The reason you failed to register a SORN online is that you cannot SORN a vehicle if the DVLA systems show an active Direct Debit instruction that hasn't been properly cleared through their portal, or if you were using the wrong reference numbers.

Just to be clear, was the tax not due until July 2027 before this?

If you cancel the DD without doing a SORN, you are not cancelling the tax: you are failing to pay. I'm fairly sure that won't end well for you.

I think your best bet might be to reinstate the DD ASAP.
