  1. Finding Public Toilets when wildcamping - Online Maps

I haven't looked at this thread for a few weeks, but as soon as Radar keys were mentioned, I suspected that it would turn into a discussion about the rights or wrongs of using them! I have a Radar key on my keyring at all times, mainly because I occasionally take my elderly disabled mother out...
  2. Motorhomes Only Parking

I always carry a sign which reads "Overnight Sleeping Is Compulsory"!! :)
  3. fire - CO alarm help

You can't blame the smoke detector in this case. The minimum recommended is usually one at the bottom of the stairs and one on each landing, to protect the escape route. But as Tony says, ideally you would have a smoke detector in every room, and have them linked (so that if one alarm...
  4. Moray Firth

Hi Madria, If you mean the POI at Munlochy, then yes, it seemed very good to me. I didn't sleep there myself, but stopped there to check it out while I was in the area (as I often do). There was plenty of room, and you can park up away from the road, so I'd be happy to stay overnight! Or the...
  5. Moray Firth

Hence my use of the term "existing POI" lol. :):) PS... I'm sleeping at another existing POI tonight. This one is near the top of a waterfall and the forecast is for heavy rain. If I wake up at the bottom of the waterfall in the morning, who do I sue... Canalsman or the person who submitted...
  6. fire - CO alarm help

The problem with a combined smoke/ CO alarm is that a smoke detector should ALWAYS be fixed at the highest point in a compartment, whilst a carbon monoxide detector is usually fitted lower down. If you fit a smoke alarm anywhere other than the ceiling, then all the space above it could...
  7. Moray Firth

In spite of what we've all said about the north and west being so great, I've spent the last few days around the Moray Firth area, and it really is a great place to spend some time! The scenery is very, erm, scenic, with plenty of coastal areas of course to watch for seals and dolphins etc. If...
  8. Moray Firth

Here's an existing POI that should be big enough for any wildologists' needs.... https://maps.google.com/?ll=57.55419,-4.24558&z=19&t=h I called there today to check it out. Just a word of warning though.... the white hut there is a bird-hide, and when I had a look in I found the internal door...
  9. Whoopee-dooo

Rats and mice will often be tempted by the warmth of an engine bay, especially as the nights get colder. From there, there's usually plenty of access for them into the cab/passenger compartment via the holes pre-cut for cables etc to pass through. Even when there's a tight rubber grommet fitted...

  11. Moray Firth

STOP-PRESS.... I was at Chanonry Point at abouit 8am this morning. According to local paper, that was supposed to be high tide time, but it looked to me as if the tide had been going out for an hour or so (will get more accurate times next time). I stayed for a couple of hours and saw about...
  12. Moray Firth

By the way, it'd be no use asking Morgan The Moon to suggest a good place to see Whales... he'd probably suggest Merthyr Tydfil. :):):)
  13. Moray Firth

Yes, I went to Balnakeil Bay last week... it's a gorgeous place and the sandy beach, like the others on the north coast, are as good as any I've seen in the UK. But as you say, you struggle to find a place to sunbathe unless you get there early lol. I didn't explore it too much though...
  14. Moray Firth

For anyone interested in whale-watching etc, I got a really useful leaflet from a Tourist Information Centre yesterday, called "Whale, dolphin and porpoise watching in the Scottish Highlands". It lists good locations all around the coasts and tells you what you might see there and when. It also...
  15. Moray Firth

As well as that list of wild creatures there have also been some unconfirmed sightings of Scampa along the west coast in the last few weeks! As a couple of you know, I've been meandering slowly up the west side of Scotland, including a few days on the wilder parts of Skye, and it really is as...
  16. should I stay or should I go?

  17. New to Motorhoming and I am need of some help please.

Hi Hugo & Welcome!! If you click on this link.... http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/poi-file-help-support/12545-tomtom-poi-installation.html it should explain how to download the POI's onto your TomTom. As you have found, you don't just print off the POI's as a list, but...
  18. Finding Public Toilets when wildcamping - Online Maps

You can also buy the Radar key in a normal size (same size as any mortice key), without the bulky grip/handle that is designed for less nimble hands. :)
  19. I found this today on a campsite website...is this discrimination?

Someone should email them and ask them to clarify what they mean by "transit vehicles"? As a Transit owner myself, I really can't imagine that I'd be unwelcome anywhere. (Not that I'm too worried though, it's genuinely over 30 years since I stayed on a campsite!!) :):)
  20. 1991 Renault Master

From the photo's, the headlamps look similar to several other cars and vans from the 80's and 90's, including some Fords and Talbots etc, but you'd have to compare the complete shape and size to find an easy-ish swop. It might be worth asking on a Renault forum for ideas or other possible types...
