    Helmsley

Stopped here last week. Only a few vans but it was mid week. Pretty place, spent a bit in town as well. Handy for the Cleveland Way too. Glad it's being successful! Edit. Losing track. It was a Sunday...

    cooking rice in the van

Also a pressure cooker user - uses less gas, less water and reduces steam. white 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water - 2 mins at pressure, then off heat and natural cool down. brown 1 cup of rice to 1.25 cups of water - 18 mins at pressure, then off heat and natural cool down.

You know, that didn't even occur to me... Thanks :)

    steering wheel clamps

I used a ClutchClaw on my T4. Smaller and easier to store and deploy that the Disclock. Van was never stolen... I use the Disclock on my current van, but only because it is an auto. Awkward to store when not in use though, due to it's size.

Bring and Buy sale - Rutland Water.

Not 100% sure we can make it yet (Selling one of my vans, so may need to be at home), but have a Coleman camping oven that will be for sale if we are there. Only used a couple of times. Didn't fit on our stove properly.

    New motorhome accessory increases MPG!

Increases performance too. Fastest my Westy ever went up the A41 was on the back of recovery truck.

    Security measures

I have a clutch claw on my Westy. Assume it works as it's never been stolen :) Small enough that it can be stored out of the way when driving around.

Are UK Motorway services basically a NO for over-nighting?

Used to use service stations to break up long journeys until the prices got silly. It's almost like they don't want our custom... When heading for Scotland, the POI at Shap in the lake district is a useful stop, used it a couple of times. Only a few minutes from the motorway and peaceful.

Wild Camping in the Falkland Islands

Interesting that you have two starter batteries, I knew they had them on HiLux's but didn't realise they put two in the HiAce. I've only got one, but it's an older engine without the electronics, so maybe that is why. Starts on the button. We spent a long time considering converting our old...

Wild Camping in the Falkland Islands

Nice, and being used properly :) Think I remember seeing that on ebay, the hatch on the side is unusual. dan (owns a HiAce 4wd called Godzuki!)

    vans less than 3.5 tons

If a 4wd coachbuilt appeals, check out the Toyota CamRoads. Quite rare over here, again a Japanese or Australian import. Built on the Dyna chassis, so parts should not be a problem. Think they are 3.5T. Didn't take too hard a look at one, since they are too big for me, but it looked like the...

    Weird meals

My top food tip is: when you run out of milk, make an instant hot chocolate and pour that on your cereal.

I'm slightly stuck on a slightly boggy camping field !

T4s are dreadful on wet grass. I've been towed off a flat grass field before now... My solution was 2 rubber door mats, take up no space in the van and can be kept in bin liners when dirty. Park with your front wheels on them, then peg them down. Use 2nd gear to pull away and watch your...

    Cooking Oil Fuel

It was popular with the T4 crowd running the old 2.4D (a normally aspirated IDI engine). However, they were getting the pumps rebuilt first (presumably issues with o-rings degrading). Regular fuel filter changes were required, but that is not a great expense.
