Roaming in the EU

So on the 12th our Vodafone worldwide unlimited sim that costs £55 per month is going/finished. They say it's 25gb outside the uk but we have never had any extra costs. It's worked brilliantly.
we had it when we we travelling and left a friend building our little house along with sorting probate on parents.
Cheapest they do is £30 for unlimited and 25gb in Europe.
Tesco is £20 with the club card.
I just wish I could work out how much data we need.

Talkmobile is a Vodafone provider and after a couple of decades with Vodafone I switched finally when they got too greedy. We both have contracts with them now and I think its 250gb for about £13 or something like that. However the EU allowance is pitiful. I think just 5gb but given that they are all limited now in Europe except maybe Tesco (for now) it might be one for you to consider if you want to stick with Vodafone for a home phone at least. Support has been very good. Longer term I think we will all end up hunting for a second sim for Europe anyway.

£3 for 100gb in uk including 30gb eu on a rolling 30 day contract.
.might just buy a couple of these if anyone knows if the start date starts when you buy them or insert them..me and small print struggle a bit.
Runs on Vodafone is a bonus.
They start from when you insert them, but you only get a month to do so from the ordering date - you get nagging reminder emails after a week or so.

I have currently got two for my RUT950 to swap between.

Either look at your data usage on your phone or log in to your account and look at billing to see how much data you have been using each month. We use about 300GB/mth by tethering two tablets to one phone and watching TV on them in the evenings. I just can't watch what she watches! 😀

So eventually found a bit of info from Vodafone....
Now ordered a unlimited sim from Tesco (o2) with no limit on usage in EU for £20 per month ...
Will see how that goes.

I'm assuming thats a 12 month contract not PAYG?

No it's a 24 month contract. The 12 month was £25... and £30 without a clubcard over 12 months.
The bit that swung it over lebara (£19) was the unlimited in the eu .plus if they cancel or change their offer you can just leave with no extra charges. You just had to do it via the clubcard, it also gave £25 back in points for the card.
Plus a few I know say it really is unlimited in the eu. Unlike our Vodafone unlimited which is 25gb.
I thought their payg was very expensive.

I would switch but I reckon o2 would be hopeless here. Might see if I can get hold of an o2 sim though just to test it. There is always the possibility that Tesco will at some point introduce EU caps though. I keep seeing caveats that its still available for 2026 etc. Yes I think the 100gb PAYG is £30 a month. Your deal is a good one for unlimited I think if they honour that in Europe.

You don't get the eu unlimited unless you go through the club card..
It asks at the start if you have one or do you want to join...
Vodafone would not come under £30 for their basic unlimited .
though by ditching them I've saved £34 per month but lost the worldwide add on.
So e sim it will be now if needed.

Reading their T&C's HFH the roaming period stipulates if more than 2 out of 4 months out of UK with a 2 week (so 10 weeks) grace period then charges apply. That's very similar to UK entry into Schengen zone of 90 days in/out rule so probably quite workable.

Does anyone know if Tesco enforce this rule? It says in the fair usage policy that after two months usage abroad you will be given a warning and a further two weeks but after that they will start charging you. If you are using your full 90 days that would leave you short.

I have used my Tesco SIM many times in the EU for periods up to 90 days and have had no notifications. I try not to take the mickey by restricting usage to well below the 100Gb per month in the contract.

from past experience with the tesco sim they seem to operate on full months and would be checking after you 2nd bill in reality giving you 3 months , i’m presently in spain till april 20th my package renewed 2 days before we came over so by april i should be able to confirm

As usual, I'm arriving late to a thread. I live in France and have a reglomobile sim in my phone and another in my TP Link router in the van. If you pay by the French equivalent of direct debit you get 300gb (5G) for 9€80 per month. My phone is dual sim so I also have a Smarty sim with about 1gb whilst in France but unlimited calls and another data only Smarty sim for the TP Link. Whilst in UK I upgrade both to unlimited for £19.80. This might sound like a lot but as we tend to be in UK in the darker winter months (as we are now) we tend to use a lot of data. Also our satellite dish only points to the French satellite and that's when it's working!
