Morrisons ( REFUSE TO FILL LPG)

It will if every motorhomer in the country takes the same stand.
Thats never going to happen though is it....

There will be thousands roaring on forums/facebook complaining of 'discrimination' probably at the same time threatening Human rights infringements etc etc..

About 3 will pick up a drum and start banging it....
1 will write a, snarky letter to someone who will stick it straight in the bin...

Whilst the rest just go somewhere else...

Meanwhile nothing will change....

Make enough noise about it online though and other businesses may see a gap in the market?

Can't hurt.

Just don't see it happening for the amount they sell....

Some stations are on 4 plus tanker loads of fuel a week...

To be honest Morrisons garages half the time won't even sell the Calor bottles they have in stock because the station is busy or they are running single crewed...

They really aren't going to be bothered by someone wanting £20 of LPG going somewhere else...

The stations that have active lpg pumps seem to be mainly large towns etc and probably a populace of duel fuel cars/taxis...

And let's be honest the whole lpg car fuel thing has largely run out of steam (or gas)

Still plenty of places to top up.... Well where there were already plenty of places at least.

All I can see is MFG just digging their heels, in and on this one I can't plame them.

Sorry, I didn't mean that they would care about going elsewhere, I don't care if they care. In fact as I don't use LPG I don't care at all, I'm just drinking the Devil's Advocaat or something like that.

But it may encourage smaller chains to take on LPG sales which in turn would generate more Diesel sales for them as well?

Nah they wont give a flying fig about a few complaining motorhomers. They probably would prefer us to go away anyway cluttering up their forecourts. We are a tiny minority of their customers generally and an even smaller minority with refillable tanks I think.

Its becoming a PIA though especially if like me you can only carry 1 x 6kg Gaslow and 1 x 6kg Calor. I don't care so much in the UK as you can get Calor anywhere, its just a bit of an inconvenience. Europe going the same way worries me a bit though.

The only answer long term is probably to go gasless or as near gasless as you can. A Compressor Fridge would help us out a lot I think. Down the line I think thats where its going and diesel heating.

I think the big issue (speaking to my local guys at Cheshire bottle gas)
Is infrastructure costs/insurance/regulate testing etc etc

They say they barely cover the cost of actually selling LPG from the pump...

BUT they fill and sell their own bottles too so those sales subsidies the bulk they sell..
They reckon they wouldn't bother putting tanks and pumps in now for the amount of bulk sales they make...

Even my regular fill ups have to once or twice a year now after swapping to diesel heating and 240v fridge...
There is only really the water heater and occasional rewarming of food we've bought whilst out and about (I don't go away to stand and cook in the van....)

It's not like I've even got hair to wash in the shower...
(And I'm tempted to run my clippers over her head whilst herself asleep to save her using so much water/gas)

I hope you'll stick a post up about it when you do ;-)

Exactly what I've done Barry (as you know).

Have you thought about Lithium?

I am 90% sure it was mainly Total we used for LPG in France last year though. We never had any issues. Filler on the side. If they have stopped allowing motorhome LPG fills its a massive problem as we came across them more than any other provider.
Berck Sur Mer Total station have knocked us back, same with the one at Chatellerault is another that springs to mind. What I do now if going to the latter with the car, put my safefil tank in the boot, up to pump, which is out the way, remove tank from boot and fill, sneaky

The gas situ here at home and sometimes within EU land is main reason yesterday I purchased a 2200W power bank. I'll be able to plug bank to ehu and heat water using the bank. Mind you, with the hot summers, has to be cold.

But the refilling of tanks, whether safefill or installed system with out side filler is a concern these days.

Spain is no problem for Refillable lpg, Barry. We're off to Gasoprix at Puerto Sagunto tomorrow morning to refill at 0.88€ per litre (and you can borrow a Spanish adapter, as you can at Repsol, Benicarlo - opposite Autocaravanas Tambo) to name but 2 stations. Also remote 24 hour station at Ampolla where lpg is 0.848€, and no human being to do the Jobsworth role within hailing distance ...

Steve

Not sure about Morrisons Leyland anymore since we moved however .......................................................................

Preston Calor, Factory Lane, Penwortham, Preston. PR1 9UT allow LPG filling but only to fully fitted systems, no Ebay adapters or loose bottles, not even the SafeFill.

The first time you go they come out and inspect the filling system then if it`s all correct they let you fill and take your registration.

There are cctv cameras covering all angles of the LPG pump so they can see your registration after that you connect up press the large black button and it will start filling. You then just to go into the shop to pay, there is no pay at the pump option.
Thanks for that. I usually use the Esso in Tarlton when going North, O'll add this as an alternative.

Trouble is I hardly ever go to Spain. I was more concerned about the reports of the French Total garages refusing fill ups as we used them a lot last year. Probably Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany this year as well as France. Not sure about them.

In France, on my last trip I filled with LPG at Leclerc, Carrefour, Super U and Avia with no problem. Some years since I've used (or tried) Total, but that's simply because the others have been more conveniently located or better priced.

Last year was our first trip over the water since before Covid and I noticed a fair few E. Leclercs and supermarket stations with height barriers. That never used to be the case. Its why we ended up mainly using Total energy stations. I think we used Avia stations though as well.

Super U/Hyper U were no problem in France, Barry. Total have a Total ban ..., but everywhere else looks good.

We used various LPG stations in France in the autumn, we never had any problem. It wouldn't put me off going.

I am really fortunate as I have installoil nearby for lpg, I bought both my safefill tanks from this business, both tanks full gives me 35 litres of lpg.

The business has not long installed a 24hr lpg dispensing system (T's & C's apply) I asked the owner would this lpg investment pay, thinking campers only. Apparently many black cabs run on lpg, and on occasion I have been to the business myself, cars have pulled in to fill up with LPG.
