Which levelling blocks

Yes yes I know I could have googled it or read thousands of threads but where is the fun in that?

These "Jumbo" blocks I have are crap. They used to be great for the old van as it had little wheels but this one has massive wheels and as you can see they dont really fit on the block step. That block looks tiny but it is a Fiammia (copy) Jumbo. And its cracked and will be resigned to the bin soon.

What I need is something thats higher really. Some of those Milenco ones look massive but they also look like they might damage the huge tyres.

Thoughts?

Milenco Triples suit us best with 16 inch wheels; the height is slightly less than on the quadruples but the larger bays give adequate room for the wheels to be fully seated. And, on level 3, jumping down from the cab almost warrants a parachute ... :ROFLMAO:. Bought our 2nd hand at a Rally in Summer 2021 for £15 'to try before getting a new set'; still using the originals, albeit the honeycomb cells are dog-eared. I was told by the Vendor that you can trim the flappy bits with a multi-tool cutter, but he hadn't bothered, and I followed suit ...

You said......The only thing I do think might be an issue on these massive ones is getting up on concrete surfaces. That initial step up is too steep. They all look like that. I bet it just shoves them along but on concrete the smaller Jumbo steps I have will probably suffice as the slope never tends to be as bad.

I bought some 'runners' along with the ramps and they clip on underneath so on slippy groung you can clip them on and drive over the runners and that holds the ramps - stopping them slipping so check the ones you are interested in as they may also have that facility

Thats a good point thanks. You would expect they would have them for such a lump of a ramp. However the only one I can find is this one and its for the Quattro, Trident and Triple 3

This offer is sounding more appealing by the minute! :ROFLMAO:

Very kind cheers but I think I'll go for a pair of Maxis. Might still call in and drink your Scotch though.
Always welcome and there will always be a very good selection of single malts to try

Perhaps your axle weights are lower than mine, but my Triples got partially crushed at first use (see my earlier post for photos). A few years later and they're still usable, but have deformed further -- just a little each time I use them.

@barryd : One plus with mine is that the profile probably means the van is applying a downward force just before a horizontal one -- at least, I've never had an issue with my ramps 'being shoved along'.

Maybe the bigger wheels and tyres will help. I envisage the monster ramps will only be used now and again on Grass anyway. You know that impossible steep CL or wild spot you get yourself onto and your either sloping on one side or back or front. This one we are now is like that. There is no way to get flat even with the Jumbo Fiammas. Its ok but after a few days it gets annoying. I reckon with those Maxi 18cm jobs it would be perfect. Its only a few occasions though really.

The big Milenco Quattro 4s are great and very robust. I’ve added some short webbing drive-onto straps to their “approach” end to stop them slipping from the wheel - works well.

Thanks. What size are your wheels and tyres?
235/65 R16, on a 4200kg Sprinter.
The webbing strap (I think it might have been some old ratchet strap) is about 60mm wide x 200mm long and through-bolted to the leading edge of the ramps. It's often not necessary but works well when it is.
The longest we've sat on them so far is about 4 days and we've no issues with tyres or deforming ramps. I have once added a heavy rubber chock behind one of the wheels when that ramp was slightly too far forward, resulting in the wheel not being 100% in the seat. It didn't look unsafe but the chock gave me a little "peace of mind". The wheel seats on the Quattros are adequately sized - on this occasion it me and my co-pilot not aligning the ramp completely correctly 🙄

I don't have a ramp co-pilot. I'm too much of a poser for that. :D

I will join this discussion as we have been looking for ramps, but not found anything.

Our truck sits on big fat 265/65 R17 off road tyres which measure 230mm wide, And the rear axle is plated at 2200Kg so we can expect up to 1100Kg on each rear wheel (tyres are rated for 1400Kg per wheel)

That sets the bar quite high. SWMBO bought one plastic ramp as a test and it only gives 75mm height and barely fills half the width of the tyre.

At the moment I am using 2 lengths of 9" by 2" regularised timber (floor joists) and a second shorter piece that will give 4" lift in 2 steps and am certain it will be strong enough if not very elegant. I would like some plastic ones hoping they would be lighter but not yet seen anything that covers the full 230mm width of the tyre, gives at least, if not more than 100mm lift and will cope with 1100Kg per wheel.

Actually only half joking. I won't need or be able to test them until next year now anyway.

A Milenco Triple will easily cope with that load they designed for vans such as ours or Barry's which have a plated rear axle load of 2.4tonne, you will find that at 240mm wide placement will critical for your peace of mind, although I've seen plenty of vans parked up with tyres overhanging the ramps and the owners don't seem to worry.

What a palava these ramps are. I stopped using them years ago.I find there's usually sufficient unevenness in the ground to get level-ish. If my cuppa doesn't slide down the table, I'm fine.
I agree for one night but if you spend a week or two or more and it's not level it eventually does get annoying. In the early years I never carried blocks. Maybe I've got a bit more fussy in the later years. We do spend more time in one place these days though.

Yea, I'm sure that's true, both of us getting more fussy as we get older.
You fussy about being level. Me fussy about carting big lumps of plastic around that I hardly ever use.

It will actually be four lumps of big plastic for me as ill be keeping the smaller set as well. :D

We have used the Milenco triples since about 2015. It was a good choice. We have used them for one three week stop in the Dales and a two week stop in Cornwall, visiting parents. Neither time did anything to the tyres and both time, because of the grip from the ramps, they were easy to use. The ones you are looking at Barry, are all but smooth, I wouldn't fancy that on a wet, buddy surface.

The Milencos we are using are the same one we bought all that time ago and there is no deformation apart from two small areas that we believe was due to the heat (42C in Spain. Not bad for around 10 years.

Those look like they will do what we want. Enough height options and enough width and weigh.

We have limited adjustment without doing anything just by adjusting the rear air suspension. So ramps with coarse steps are fine, and then fine tune with the air suspension.
