I recently bought a new panel for my side marker light on the van which is held in by 4 plastic retainer clips. Try as I might, they won't push home into the corresponding holes;

Is there a special way of doing this? They push in and fit the holes fine when not attached to the panel.

Perhaps there is an alternative clip I could use?

They are the wrong ones, on temu you can buy a mixed case full which i have got and you want the single compression ones with no centre plug, if stuck i will see if i have and post, but most motor shops should have them Rob.

They came with the panel Trev and are the same as the ones in the old panel.

Mind you, they had failed in the old panel.

True but almost impossable to refit, same happened when i fitted a new winder unit to my car, had to use ones with no pin, also a very hard thump with the palm of hand to get them home.

Tried the hard thump but any harder and I reckon I'd break the panel Trev.

Do you have a link to the ones with no pin?

Thanks Trev.

I'll pop into our local Motoring shop later in the week.
There is a trick, pull back the centre pin. squeeze wide bit of clip with pliers and heat the clip and then let it cool, semi reincert the centre pin fit clip im door then bang in, good luck and happy banging.

Here's a fleabay link to the set Trev found - also on amazon for a quid more!

As said, silicone grease is a good idea (although silicon and silicone are two very different things!)

I have just found a pack as well Rob, I knew that I had some but finding them was difficult can post some off to you if needed before Hereford, to be honest I think the ones you have just need a lump hammer

Rob, if you can find a bar about the same diameter (or a bit bigger) than the face of the clips, hold it tight to them when in position and then give the bar a good heavy push to seat the clips in place, you shouldn’t have to thump them.

You could also try the end of a hammer shaft if you have one the right size.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Terry, I'll tape it on until I get to Hereford and see how I get on there and if it still doesn't work I'll PM you.

If all else fails I'll Sikaflex the fekker on!

Thanks Allan, Unfortunately I've just tried this but to no avail.

I think the problem is that the brackets which hold the pins inside the panel do not hold the pins flush with the edges of the panel - they are set about 5mm inside the panel so the pins won't push in 'to the hilt'. My fault for not buying an OEM panel from Renault (this one came from Amazon).

I will see what Steve and the finest brains of WC can come up with at Hereford but I suspect I will have to get another panel from Renault.
