Water hose for filling up in France

What length of hose is advisable, and also hose connection please. At present I'll be filling jerry cans and want to avoid lugging them to camper if possible.

Thanks

most carry a watering can but enough to reach to other side of van about 3-4 mtrs , or one of these new stretchy hoses that expand to 50+ mtrs choice is yours

I carry a selection of tap fittings and a water hose of about 10m, and it has served well so far in Europe.
Not tried the watering can idea yet though.

Don't carry any hose just a watering can and apart from not being able to fill up from a sink it fits all taps and as long as you can get reasonable close then no problem.

I used the same as I use in UK. Takes up a lot less room than a watering can and I can't lug a full watering can about anyway. Think it's about 10 metres.

Watering can, you folks got wayyyyy to much spare space !

30ft expanding hose off Fleabay complete with push fits.. Fits in a 1l plastic food container, which I've drilled with holes to let air in moisture out. Selection of different diameter screw in adaptors and if all else fails a rubber push fit with tightner (for good fit) on adapter for those pesky normal taps.

Never been defeated yet, apart from Johnny foreigners cleaning out loos with fresh water taps ... diiisssgusstinnng.

Chrz Mul.

I carry a couple of collapsible 5ltr containers. I do have a hose but in 5 years have only used it twice. I have a couple of screw fit tap connections for the hose. The collapsible containers have always been enough to use to fill the tank with a few trips

If you use Aires then 10m hose of whatever type should be adequate. Water is often free in which case the hose fitting is normally a standard 3/4 inch BSP fitting as on a garden tap.. Sometimes you will find the type you have to hold down to get the water and this will often need a rubber hose connector. You often have to pay for water from this type - 1 or 2 euros for 100 litres if the system works, 1 or 2 euros for 0 litres if it doesn't!! Many people use watering cans but we gave that up a long time ago. Can be useful if the hose doesn't reach. We once filled up 100 litres using a 1 litre bottle.

A plastic water container makes a useful weight to place on the top of a push tap to hold it on!

We do carry a collapsible water container, don't think it's ever been used in France as they are generally set up for motorhomes, not like UK where campsites are set up for caravans and motorhomes are an afterthought.

Our hose is quite short 3 or 4 m, and has a plastic funnel at end, this is folded over to push on any size tap fitting.

Don’t forget it has to be ..

FOOD GRADE HOSEPIPE

Watering can works well especially if you cannot get near the tap ..

I just cannot understand why you wouldn't use a hose if you have one , surely quicker.
I've never used a watering can, imagine the sour looks from people waiting to use the tap whilst you are faffing about with your can. I know I would make a comment if I was waiting.
I carry my hose on the underside of the bike rack, space that is never used.

Hardly necessary ...

The water is in contact with the hose surface for a couple of seconds and will not be tainted.

Always store the hose empty ...

Have you seen advertised devices that fit into the water filling aperture and to which you connect the filling hose?

£15 or so.

I have a cork cut to a wedge shape that I push in alongside the hose end. Holds the hose tightly in place and costs nowt! Unless of course you're tee-total which is an uncommon condition amongst our membership ...

I just take a 10 metre semi flexible food grade hose now which I knocked up myself. Very easy to get out and bung away. I think most of the adaptors are 3/4" hoselock types but I carry a rubber flexible adaptor that you tighten on which fits most fittings as well. I did use a non food grade hose and it did make the water taste funny. It was too much of a faff anyway so binned it.

I also carry a 25 litre water carrier and three or four five litre plastic carriers all of which go on the bike so I Can carry up to 45 litres on a water run. Getting the 25 litre carrier into the tank is an art form though. Best way is just to unscrew the cover off the top of the internal water tank under the dinette seat and let it slowly pour in through the tap on the carrier but Im sometimes too impatient for that and try and lug it on my shoulder and pour it in through a funnel outside where I usually end up wearing most of it.

thanks for all the helpful suggestions. A 3/4 inch BSP garden tap fitting along with a rubber flexible adaptor and a 10m wriggly hose it is.

Anyone have a link to the flexible rubber adaptor as I cant seem to find one. thanks.

And good on you folks for carrying a watering can, it's setting a great example, but sadly there's no chance I'll follow suit :)

Im thinking of getting one of those giant rolling water tanks to tow behind the scooter next. Should last a while as long as it doesnt go rogue like this one.

I also find the expanding hose the best as it is so small and light fits as others mentioned in a small food container.
My method for push /hold type taps is duct tape to hold it on.
Other than once I have always managed to use the hose as I carry a selection of tap connectors
Also the HOSE water tank cap so I can just clip hose on and do something else like empty toilet as it take about 5mins to fill 140lts..

Ii filled up from beach foot showers once with a watering can borrowed from Norwegian. Did the job in an emergency but would not be my weapon of choice .
Might stick one in garage as was better than my emergency system of collapsible container and funnel which I also tried but was a bit of a faf.
