Let’s Talk Reflective Tape !.

No one else seems to bother with 'regulations'?

I understand the need for regulations concerning lighting and even reflective tape, what I dont understand is how so many trucks, vans and buses openly disregard any such ruling.
The Highway code clearly states the only colour of front facing illumination and yet the number of offenders with regards lighting seen on the roads has to be seen to be believed.
Blue is only for emergency services and I believe green was only for a doctor on call or emergency.
These days every trucker/Vanner with a few extra quid has a multi coloured emblem or football club illuminated in his cab and any colour of lights stuck all over his cab like a tacky carnival stall or a Yankee Cathouse.
What annoys me is the regulations even state the height you can have certain lighting, yet Plod would rather pull you over for eating a kitkat while sitting in a traffic jam.
I'llget off my soap box now, Have a good weekend.

It’s been like that ever since, Gone through a few VCPs, & TWO MOTs since, & the last one being at ‘Geoff Goulds’ a MASSIVE commercial MOT station that is quite strict.
Nothing Mentioned

It wouldn't have been mentioned at a MOT station because it isn't part of the MOT test to check the shape of reflectors, I had two triangle shaped reflectors permanently stuck on the rear of my car (A frame towcar) for five years or more, I had police cars behind me a few times over that time when I was driving it and they did not take any action but it is against the rules to have triangular reflectors on anything but a trailer

Absolutely 100% Agree with you Wholeheartedly Growlie69,,,

It’s annoying, But ‘IF’ a copper is having a bad day, & Is looking to vent His/Her vengeance then Pointing at such vehicles as they whiz past Me while he rights the Ticket isn’t going to help.

I really do agree with you though & see it Almost Nightly.

Ahh, Right,,
BUT I ‘Think’ it was Part of the MOT test at Mick Gould’s on my last visit, (Not 100%Sure though),
If you look at my Revew I posted a Picture of what they Test, & I’m sure it said Rear Reflectors,,
Could be wrong though.

Hi, when I wanted some reflective tape, called round to my local vehicle graphics company and got some red reflective vinyl from them, worked a treat.

Hi ya Graham,
Yeah ‘Getting’ Reflective Tape isn’t really a Problem, What did you use it for ?,
It’s that I’ve just learned that there is ‘Apparently’ a Minefield of Rules n Regs that go along with displaying said Tape actually on the vehicle Believe it or not !.

Reflectors are part of the test because you have to have them but having extra triangular ones isn't, whether it will be later this month I don't know, you can easily remove them if you want to, there are a few motorhomes driving about with triangular reflectors in their rear lights because the Hella Caraluna lenses are not available but caravan ones are

Yeah, I’m going to replace them with Rectangular Ones I think,
Or ca I just Put The Red Reflective Tape in place of the Triangle ones Do you think,
I’ve got Half a Roll left, Does it have to be a Rectangle OR can it be Square in shape, obviously both will match,,,
I will look an even bigger Fool otherwise!

Yep, Had a re-read of the kinky that Mark61 posted earlier & I ‘Think’ by my interpretation that

I’ve been a Naughty Zombie for Best part of Two Years & in that time Gone through 2 MOTs, 2 VCPs had COUNTLESS Police & Or VOSA vehicles Behind me at some point or another & it appears that I am in Breach of at LEAST 2 accounts of that Particular piece of Law in reference to Reflectors alone
BOTH
8b - They are Triangle
8c - They are mounted on a Movable Part of the vehicle

So what chance have I got to conform with the Tape lol lol.

Frankly no one gives a damn what shape OR orientation of reflectors fitted....
To be honest you'll be extremely unlucky to get a fail for having no reflectors fitted at mot time.

Look at your average trailer being towed.... If its got lights fitted then it's impressive... Let alone, whether they work.
