Valeting Service

Sensible comments please!

My sister is thinking of starting a mobile caravan and motorhome valeting service (she's had enough of working for the NHS, she's a nurse and can't get to take her holidays, she's owed a weeks leave from last year!).

Anyway she is at present pricing equipement (no pressure washers!), advertising etc. Normal startup sort of things.

So how many people here would paid to have someone came and wash their MH/campervan. Her idea is for a range of options from a wash to the full works-inside and out (ideal I think if you are looking to sell). And how much? say for a basic wash?

Cheers P

Shame to lose a Nurse to do this sort of thing, but can understand why your sister wants out.
Your biggest problem would be the distances involved in travelling to do the valeting, it could cost a lot in time and fuel, so charges would have to be assessed accordingly, and that would probably be too much for people to use this sort of service, unless just done localy, but then how many customers would you have?
Can't help with the prices, but the best of luck to your sister if she takes the plunge.

She's had the nod from a local CC site to work there and where she stores her MH (around 400 and due to get larger caravan/MH storage place), to start with.

I think she is planning to do it partime and then see how is goes.

The NHS? my sister is mental health nurse, with degree etc. Teaches others, she's on about half of what my brother-in-law is on, he's a facilities manager in the same trust-he's a was a chef?? I'm not saying he's not good at his job, but feel that they is no balance of wages??

When I bought my MH, I had it valeted inside and out by a car valeting firm run by a friend in the village where I live.

£130 was what he charged. It was a full day's work split over two days.

On the information that you give, I would look into it further, and if all was ok, go for it.
Canalsman says he paid £130 for a valet, yep that would certainly persuade me.
All the valets that we have had, have been included in the price of the MH, so can't comment on prices.
Good luck to your sister in her new career, I am sure she will do well with the numbers you quoted.

Cheers,
Bill.

Boats

Your sister may also consider boat cleaning as there are plenty of boats around and all require a spring clean and the posh owners don't get their hands dirty merely for posing!

All good money for someone who don't mind a little graft!

The guy who did my valeting is branching out into narrow boat cleaning ...

Good idea!

She lives very close to the River Tees

whilst your sister is working she could do some market research, i.e. how many storage places are within a set distance, if theres local competition, how much they charge, companies out of her area how much do they charge, what would people be prepared to pay for a full valet ,same with the boats as mentioned. whilst starting up she could do cars if motorhomes are a bit slow less money but would bring money in and help her perfect her service and get her name about! she could approach local dealers and offer a service! what about coaches etc the list is endless!!god methinks i might do it!lol. i had my own business for many years and she needs to be prepared for long hours, but the rewards are good if she gets it right,if she gets it wrong she'll learn! every vehicle she does tell her to have a standard sheet where customers(if they want_ make comments good or bad.)if vehicles come in real messy take before and after pictures.

i wish her the best with her new venture;)

I get the outside of my van cleaned at the local hand car wash, costs £7-8.
I have also had it washed at various places around the country while touring.
If a service were available on site I may use it, especially if this included an interior spruce up.
Good luck with your venture.

about a month ago, and the first time, called in to 1 of these handjobee wash places that are springing up all over the place mostly manned by eastern Europeans and Asians from closed petrol stations etc etc...

advertising a car wash/shine for £10.00.. so i said i'll give him £20 to do my 23ft'er:p
cut a long one short ..we settled on £25 after he said £40.00:rolleyes:
BUT DIDN'T INCLUDE THE ROOF:eek:

shan't bother again... no betterer than when i do it

regards:cool:

A very good point Aj, the roof being the hardest part to clean, is what I would want doing if nothing else, maybe a set up with scaffolding/platform in place for ease of cleaning?
Lots of different things come in to play when tackling a vehicle larger than a car.
Then there is the old Health and Safety, and that could stop the project before it starts.
Good luck with valeting project.

Cheers,
Bill.

She owns a starblaizer now but has had a few caravans, she knows that if nothing else-the roof! She's been looking at some very niffty ladders.

Just like to say thankyou for all your advice and tips.

I will pass them all on-she may even do discount for wilders.

Of course after she has got her clean techinque right by cleaning my van.. I do wonder how much she'll charged to travel the 250 miles to my house?

tiga tell her to read my post-link, apparently theres legistration regards waterless valeting??????????? implications?more cost?

i got out of my business because of h&s and all the new building regs and having to go on new pc courses for my trades:mad:

Cheers for this, I have already emailed her with the news.

My husband runs his own company, and the stuff he has to comply with-makes you ask if it is worth the effort? Just more and more red tape. We had an offer to move to Canada a few years back-if it wasn't for his kids I think we would of gone.

Yes Mr Brown how high do you want us small business people to jump?? No doubt when "Dave" gets into office it will be no different. Bale out the banks, then turn a blind eye to there huge bonuses-and let small companies who make things and train the next generation of engineers go to the wall. Stopping now before I have a super rant.
