D88508A1-EB70-43B7-8762-04A5ED0E601F.jpg. Hi we have already used one bottle of gasD88508A1-EB70-43B7-8762-04A5ED0E601F.jpg and have one more. We have another week to go and fear we may run out due to the cold weather. A local Motorhome centre looked at my set up but could not offer any help as to what adaptor or hose I require to fit the French gas bottles. According to them it was impossible?? I know this can’t be right so have you any advice please
 
Not been in that situation myself, but I would think that if you need to get another bottle you would also have to get hold of a high pressure pigtail to go from the French bottle to your bulkhead mounted regulator. Or if you have a barbecue point you could get a bottle and a regulator and feed the gas in that way at low pressure.

Someone with touch more knowledge will come along I'm quite sure, but from what I've read on the forum gas bottles are easily available from many supermarkets.

Gas bottle fed through the bbq gas point is the way to go as temporary fix but isolate your original gas bottles first
 
Most. Supermarkets with filling stations sell gas I always use Intermarche gas 1€ deposit 20€ 11 kg bottle. Most larger stores sell regulators and pigtails the place you tried were not very clued up L/H bottle in pic is the Intermarche one

Gas in France

We had the exact same problem in February. Witzend suggested we go to Intermarche. We bought the bottle and pig tail regulator. I have a double system on mine ( 2 bottles) which looks like yours. Their pig tail fitted straight on without any problems. Total cost bottle and pig tails was 45 euros, more or less. The bottle we bought was the cream coloured Intermarche bottle and we paid the 1 euro deposit , we even put an english address on the contract. Really simple. Tested it with washing up liquid to make sure there was no leaks. Do whach out as there are two fibre washers, one at each end of the system , make sure you don't lose them. Their gas is actually cheaper than england, although it is only a 10 kilo bottle. In future we will have an emergency 12 english but will run soley on the French bottle. There are far more Intermarches in little counrty villages than there are the big ones like Leclerc for example. We listed to Witzend, top man knows what he is talking about.

Kingfisher gives the easiest option but that assumes you have an external BBQ point

Alternative is a Frenchbottle (Antargaz or similar) the regulator (detendre_) and suitable pig tail. I would suggest Mr Brico etc who should fix you up with all you need.

You might find they want an address, offer an address of a local campsite !!

If it was a emergency I would be tempted to buy a French regulator and French gas bottle ;)

Thank you everyone for your help which was appreciated.

I have now successfully purchased the correct pigtail and gaz bottle, which in the end was very easy. Unfortunately it took a while to get there as we visited at least three super markets and a couple of do-it-yourself stores where the only help we received from the staff was shrug of the shoulders and a "not possible" in French. Firstly Intermarche is a supermarket selling food, drink and clothes. They also sell fuel and gaz, but You won't find any gas fittings or pigtails in one of those. What you need is a Intermarche Super which is usually alongside the bigger stores, these stores are much like B&Q. There are other do-it-yourself type stores you can visit and in our case it was a Weldon store. I unbolted my UK pigtail and took it into the store where I was then able to identify the correct French pigtail to fit. We then went to an Intermarche store and bought a cream coloured propane bottle. There are other types and sizes but I reckoned this one would fit in my locker. No paperwork to fill in, just a straight purchase at €30. I connected it all up, checked for leaks and voila we now have gas. Please see pictures for reference. I hope this helps anyone in a similar situation.
 
Not all but most larger Intermarche stores Do have gas fittings on the shelf. The Super your talking about is actually a Brico Marche which is run by the Intermarche chain there by often found together

And difficult to see in picture but if it's a Blue label on the top of your new french bottle you've got Butane not Propane

Yes you are right and thank you. I asked for Propane and my till reciept says I bought Propane but having just checked it is Butane. The silly guy came out and gave me the wrong bottle and I was even more stupid for not noticing. Anyway the point is that I was not lucky enough to find anyone to help me in any of the stores I visited, so the picture I posted show the pigtail which worked for me. It may help someone else.

It will help someone else and luckily for you Butane will be OK at this time of year and your regulator is OK for it, you can change it for a propane next time
