Underslung gas tank

Been thinking of getting an underslung gas tank fitted to our Bessacarr and wondering what advantages will be gained over carrying standard lpg tanks. Three advantages I can think of are, freeing up an external locker, creating more space under the bench seat [there is a large tank cover in there] and larger lpg capacity.
The only disadvantages I can think of is cost and weight.

Anything else that should be considered?

I assume you carry a couple of exchangeable bottles?I wouldn't have thought that a lpg tank would weigh much more a couple of gas bottles so weight shouldn't be a significant issue,unless you are close to the MGVW.Cost is a factor as it's quite expensive to have a lpg tank fitted and it will take a long time to repay itself with the cheaper gas but factor that with the convenience of being able to fill up anywhere in Europe without faffing about with different local bottles and I think it's worth it.

we have under slung gas tank but have the optionbof useing boteld gas as well one big benifet to under slung is its a lot cheaper than botled gas

I have had a good poke about underneath the MH and found it could be a bit tight fitting a tank underneath so digging into the web I came across this set up Prakto Refillable 21.0 ltr Steel Twin Gas Bottle Kit
Looks like a good alternative cost and size wise although I don't get to free up a locker. Anyone use this make?

Have you looked at the gasit kits on ebay? twin 11kg bottle kit 345 or 330 collected from Bristol !

Yes Dave but Gasit twins will only give you combined 22ltrs where the Prakto twins give you 42ltrs. The Prakto come out cheaper than any other refillables for size that I have seen to date.

If you do go down this route, which I do think is good, have the tank fitted in a frame as straps are not really good enough. There were issues with straps corroding a while ago!
Might be worth speaking to Chris Wise at Aotogas 2000.

This is the 38ltr gas tank I fitted from auto gas 2000 it came with mounting bracket all ready welded on it .I was luck I only had to buy the tank think it was £220 . I fitted a big alloy screen round it to stop it getting chipped to death .

didn't you used to use gasit izzy? why not go back to a product you know and trust?

I recently rang Autogas 2000 to inquire about an under slung lpg tank; they gave an approx cost of £750 for tank, inlet and fitting, subject to seeing the vehicle. They suggested emailing pics of the underside of the van. Worth doing before you decide?

The LPG tank on the Renault Master is normally fitted down the chassis side
It would be helpful if you could take some digital pictures of underneath
your vehicle just to confirm the space available.

We had Gaslow, unfortunately they are coming out the most expensive. I would have thought any steel gas bottle pretty much the same, they all have to reach a standard, so perhaps with Gaslow you are paying for the name?

I spoke to Wendy this morning about Alugas bottles and was quoted £697.89 for a twin set of 11kg, fitted. Then I saw the Prakto bottles, I will ring her for a price for a pair of them fitted. Oh, nice friendly lass she was, which is always a good start.

What I don't understand is: the dimensions for Prakto and Gasit are pretty much the same, yet the Prakto says it a 21ltr bottle and Gasit is a 11ltr bottle. Is it that more gas can be compressed into a Prakto?

Izzy, I think the gasit is 11kg which holds 21 litres according to the figures given the gasit bottle is 1kg lighter than the prakto. I dont think the Gasit kit includes the pigtails though. The Prakto kit does so its a case of swings and roundabouts price wise.

Perhaps I should mention that I sent the same email request to 'Get Gas', the agents for Gas It in Bristol, on the first of this month - still waiting for a reply!

I think mine was around the £800 mark, and that was with a dash mounted level gauge. (The tank was 25 litre - 10kg@ 80% full).

It is also sprayed with a protective coating to help protect from corrosion/stone chips. Oh, and they threw in a full tank of gas.

Very nice people to deal with and you can stay overnight on the premises with EHU.
