Sitting in Watten Aire waiting for crossing tomorrow and decided to try our luck with the tv. Switched everything on and pressed the button for Astra 2 on the Snipe 2 controller and up went the Ariel and round it went. After a few minutes and no sign of it finding anything I pressed the Home button. It's supposed to drop down and lock itself in place. Well it didn't it stayed up and no matter what I tried it refused to lay down flat. Got a long drive tomorrow and certainly didn't need the sat dish sticking up so managed to get at it through the roof light by standing on the table very carefully and managed to undo all the screws and get it down through the hatch.

This is the third one that's gone faulty and now out of guarantee. Only used it a dozen times.

Good job it wasn't the Pilote as it was on the back corner and I would have needed my best French to find a ladder.

..

Just spotted this on another site doesn't sound like your problem but may be related =

The changes to the Satellite transponders this week will have messed up many of the auto seek sat systems

Couple of week ago when out with MH, our Oyster 2 dish worked fine, which it always has done. At this weekends wheel meet, Dish could not home in to satellites (Astra 2).

Strangely enough, WC member 5andy, who has same oyster setup, albeit a newer system, his worked fine. Maybe a call to oyster is a wise move.

Cheers for the info.

Ps, anyone else experience problems with their setup?

Did your dish have a clear view of the satellites, the signal comes down from the south at roughly 45 degrees ?

Maybe retry in a wide open area ?

It's either that or swop over to Trev's tin whistle to keep yourself entertained

Dish ?

Well, we been heading south through France and me cheapo aldi dish satellite only just given up past Toulouse LOL !! Anyway, streaming tv marvelously via firestick on free wifi as I post this....Maja

Mine cost £65 on ebay and was supposedly short of bits and brackets. It was complete and I can set it up and down quickly on a tripod no remote no mucking about with electronics and I can stick in its bag in the garage in 5 minutes flat.

In some foreign Locations this would be classed as camping behaviour any thing out side the van can get you moved on or fined

Then I will stick it out the roof hatch and plant it up there. Just must not forget to get it down again before driving off.

Nothing to do with transponder it just won't go down and lock in it's home position. The home light is on so it thinks it's down but it's not. Will phone Avtex in the morning and see if there is a fix for it. Although it's the new Snipe 2 its out of guarantee because it was a replacement for the last one that packed up which replaced the first one that worked ok for a year before it died.

If they won't fix it FOC I am not going to pay for a repair. After having 3 faulty ones I think it's time to quit. Be cheaper to buy some DVD's at least we can watch them in France and Spain.

It might be out of time but probably only a few hours use, it might be a bit of corrosion on the pivots not allowing the self seek to work properly. They SHOULD really fix it free as it is not reasonable for it go go wrong so soon. Give it a try, cannot lose anything for asking.

Does it rotate to the correct park position? Admin had a problem with his Snipe not returning to the park position. The problem with his unit was due to water ingress causing the drive mechanism to seize thus stopping rotation. He stripped and rebuilt his unit back to working condition. PM him he may be able to help you.

It rotates to what is it's home position then instead of folding down it just sits there and the HOME LIGHT comes on. Its off the roof now so I can get to serial number and see if they can fix it. Why should you have to rebuild a unit thats only been up a dozen times. It comes in a case so I think it should be kept in it away from all this British weather.

Suppose I can always try the Small Claims Court as not fit for purpose.

Our oyster dish drops automatically if I try to drive away with dish in up position, does your setup do same and if so, did you try moving?

I know, a bit late now with setup dismantled.

The controller sends the command to the ariel to goto the home position and the ariel must send a reply to the controller to say its done it but its lying ! There has to be some problem with the a sensor because the ariel unit on the roof thinks its down and in the home position when its clearly not.
