Cut off switch

I'm thinking of fitting a cut off switch for security. I don't want to fit a battery isolator but a simple hidden switch to stop the starter circuit. :cool:

Has anyone done this? or do you have any advise??? :)

Why not take the live feed wire from the solenoid (which is attatched to the starter motor) ,fit the end of the wire to a simple switch then take a new wire from the switch to the solenoid, I think this should work,you can then find a suitable position to hide your switch.;)

The best way is to cut fuel pump split the live with a switch never will start as no fuel. What you are saying to cut starter will work but with a tow this will still start when the ignition has been bust.You did not say if petrol or deisel? as petrol one is simple follow the loom find the main fuse. cut wire at the back of it some where put switch in place some where only you no.Again never start. Every little helps cheap to do some wire and a switch. Tesco job cheap

Thanks Guys, Its a diesel. I had thought that the fuel cut off was the simple way, I know that this is what they do with some alarm systems. It seems simple enough, do you know what ampage switch I would need for a Boxer 2.5 TDI?
 
dont know if the new diesels are the same as the ford trannys used to be but we used to bypass the imobeliser with a wire from the live side of the battery to the fuel solenoid then short the starter out with a screwdriver instant start up so probebly an interuption in the battery live may be the best way to go

There is a fuel shut off valve hidden away in mine so not possible to start it if this is off, and i never leave it on when the van is empty, even knock it off at the services if we nip in anywhere, :D:D

Please dont ask to see it then it woulnt be hidden. hehe

Hi i Think it might be better if you want a propper job a switch and a relay 30amp this will take any high electric current from the switch burning out ask any sparks about it.

How old's the Motorhome? Looking at your pic, it should be immobilised! Can you describe your ign key. Is the plastic part long and flat, or is it chunky (approx 10mm)? if it's the latter, no need to do anything as it is fitted with an transponder immobiliser. The biggest giveaway is a light on the dash in the shape of a key, which flashes on then off when ignition applied. Without the keys, that van is going no where unless on the back of a low loader (or you've been mugged!).
