Ticks all my boxes does this one . There seems to be quite an interest in the older stuff and understandably so. Probably a labour of love as old vehicles seem to be , But the tales it could tell.

I really wish I had a garage, I could really immerse myself with the older stuff. The reality is my mechanical ability and craftsmanship doesn't stretch that far, but no cost in dreaming

I admit to stange tastes (in vehicles!) but I think thats great.
I am not sure it is a strange taste Bill I prefer to look at it as an interest in vehicles that exuded character and a bit of soul something missing from todays offerings.

My early days with Citroen were interesting, GS GSA 2CV CX LNA VISA....nothing was mainstream, They were for the masses oddball, but I suppose I like oddballs and it was great fun dealing with them, A lot of the customers characters, eccentric, I loved every moment.

Citroen Northern regional offices at Walkden near Manchester, Lunchtime two cx familialles and lunch in the local pub, couple of pints with it no one gave a hoot.

Open night for customers removing a rear wheel on a BX "up periscope " suspension driving it about on 3 wheels it was theatre !!! ..A cx driving over a plank of wood with one wheel and the steering wheel not moving because of the hydraulic steering. Non cancelling indicators giving the driver control it was fantastic and I have many happy memories

At this stage visas with bean can instruments seemed a bit too normal for a Citroen enthusiast ...yet sufficienty ldifferent to put prospects off who had driven a metro or fiesta.

As an aside one of the most underestimated cars must be the XM....beautiful thing to drive 3.0v6 you needed a good bank balance for the fuel but what a lovely motor car. IMHO knocked the socks off Granada Scorpios and the Carltons.

One of my lasting and favourite memories is I sold a cx gti turbo 2 to a hotelier and we fitted an electric sunroof to it and used T Clarke and partners in Sheffield it was Alpine white with a charcoal candy stripe interior ..... I picked it up after they had their wicked way ( webasto sunroof with a trim ring and new headlining)
Driving from Sheffield back to Doncaster on the M18 I am thinking traffic seems a bit slow a quick look at the speedo well in 3 figures !!!....She was as happy as a sand pan boy....eating the miles for fun.

There is no two ways about it . part of my heart and spirit will always be entwined with Citroens from that era ...weird and wonderful perhaps , but a real treasure

I share your enthusiasm for old Citroens, having had a GS, Bxs and still having a 2cv and a Xantia which has the same fabulous V6 as the XM. I have had the same experience of feeling like it's pootling along when actually in three digits.
The CCC Northern Rally is at Wetherby racecourse 19th-21st May, with plenty of such cars present especially on the Sunday.

yes mk4 zodiac although they now have a bit of charm about them at the time they got the nickname the flying pig . my dad had the zepher 4 variant ,not for long .useless rear calipers were inboard and siezed every other week and the v4 engine was woefully underpowered and they suffered from overheating . the mk3 was a hell of a site better car

i belive thats the one that was for sale on ebay a few months ago .there was a story with it about a couple that had it and either lived in it full time with a couple of kids aswell ,or they had built it from a pick up base with the intentions of living in it i cannot realy remember now ,all i know is they wanted a lot of money for it ,a lot of money . i do remember quite a few years when i had the beddy compas drifter and parked up on the car park in matlock bath we used to go there many weekends ,a elderly couple mo and another name i just forget the name now they had a dog she was disabled quite a bit ,lived somewhare near goole or hull well in that area anyway ,they had a bedford ca round about late 50s van ,it originally started life along with 4 others as a laundry van body apart from the wings and bulkhead was built out of wood ,the one they had was the only one of the 4 that survived i belive the others were destroyed by fire .i had some pictures of them and there van and belive i put one on here .sso many years ago no i guess they wont be around now and who known what happened to the van ,it was a unique 1 off as he had converted it to a camper van .

Bit OT because its not that old or converted, but it would make a real cute little camper.

Yes, the Estafette. hasn't got the cult following of the H van, but i think it's about to have it's time as a classic van.

Goodness I had one of those.

Check this monster don't know wether I should love it or hate its hard to make a Dagenham dustbin look uglier but think they've succeeded.

Blimey I had one of those and Dagenham dustbin was exactly the right name for it. I had the mark 3 Zephyr first. I had it 4 years with no problems. I thought I would change to the mark 4 OMG what a mistake. They had no timing chain or belts but a big carbon timing wheel. On one journey the teeth stripped and dropped the valves on the pistons. I had one expensive short motor to rebuild. The back brakes consisted of swinging calipers and what a load of junk they was. You could buy a new one from fords and if you got a month out of it you was lucky. Fords would not guarantee it because they knew it was faulty. It was a lovely big white six seater with under column gear change. In them far off days I used to do weddings on the side with it. One of these weddings I had to pick the bride and her dad up and take her to a church in Altrincham. It was an awful stormy rainy day.The seats was all dressed in white cotton the bride in all white, her dad in his togs with top hat next to him. The ribbons fluttering on the bonnet and horse shoes hung in the window. Then half way to the church the bloody windscreen wiper flew off. I had to stop and go running back for it. Got back to the car soaking wet in me peak cap and uniform. and set off again but could not see a thing. I had to open the window and wipe the the windscreen with the wiper held in my hand. I was soaked the cotton dressed seats were soaked and yes you got it the poor bride also got drowned as the rain went through the window into the back as we moved on to the church. When they both left the car the dad was sneezing. I was so embarrassed I never did another wedding and swapped the dust bin for a Triumph 2000 the next day. If that lady just happens to be on this forum I would like to apologise big time for ruining her day. I would apologise to her dad too but I don't think he will be about anymore has I was a young guy then. Yeah Dagenham Dust Bin was the name it should have had not Zypher Six.
