Yes, we keep getting prompts on our home Sky setup, It doesn't seem that long since I last spent 20 odd quid on a 'free' to view card from Sky. I'm blowed if I'm going to keep giving Murdock money for a 'free' service, I think we'll change to Freeview or Freesat.

Exactly what we did a few weeks ago. Been using Freeview in the MH for a long time, without any problems. Stuff Murdoch.

Happy Camping:)

I bought this one for the van can be 12v or also plugs in to the mains using a charger, works a treat plugs and plays on all available satellites without any setup. Found about 250 channels on the astra2 sky satellite

12V Satellite Receiver for Free Digital TV : SD Satellite Receivers : Maplin

Hi Mark,
that's the one. Have had one in the MH for 3/4 years now, no problems and useful when in Europe, being able to pick up the pre-programmed satelites.
Even whatched a movie from Baghdad TV in English with Iraqi subtitles:D
The one at home is similar, I think probably an upgraded version, also from Maplins.

Happy Camping:)

If you have Sky at home, why not just get another Sky box for the van and take the card with you?

Yep you can do that if you have paid for sky at home. Trouble is with 'Free Sky', they sell you a box (£100 i think) and a sky card which needs to be renued at a charge to sky periodically. My mate did this and was so annoyed when he came to visit and found I had about 600 channells all free using a £50 box.

Sky do not publisie the fact that 'freesat' is just that 'Free' you buy a box and it will get all the free to air channels from all the satalittes in the sky. there are other boxes which will conenct to your pc so that you can add codes to de-scamble the paid to view channels. When you connect it back to the satalitte you have the extra channells, This is of course naughty ;)

mmmm, very naughty, now let's see what did I do with that usb cable:D

Sky Freesat as been around for many years at a cost of £20 per card, but they didn't tell anyone about it, now Sky want more money so they are asking people to replace the cards at a further cost to whatch channels that are free. greedy ba------.
What about the pensioners who have had a Freesat card for a one off payment, totaly useless now, unless they wat popups on screen.

Happy Camping:)

It depends where you live, we retain Ch5 but loose Anglia TV, so for the bedroom and motorhome we watch 'London' ITV. Have now replace TV in lounge with a TV with Freesat built in so stuff Murdock (and bill gates... but that's another story - how can goverments allow two men to rule half the world!?!)

We also have the Maplins one, think I paid about £45 for the suitcase sat system which has the box. Pretty much the same one sold in Aldi & Lidl. Can get all the channels when in France but just the news & radio in Spain & Portugal on the Astra 2. When I get bored I usually mess around with some of the other satellites to see whats available.

Don't know what advantage you get with the Sky boxes, got a couple stuck in a cupboard at home as I couldn't get as much on them as the cheap Maplins box. Can't understand why anybody would want to pay Sky for anything that you can get for free.

I guess the advantage with using a Sky or Freesat box is that you get the EPG. We use an old Humax FTA box in the van when off travelling, not that we watch much TV but it's nice to be able to pick up BBC World from time to time to catch up with the news. Last time we were out in Turkey we picked up some Arab satellite (Nilesat I think) which had BBC World and occasionally an English language film (with Arabic subtitles).

I've just replaced my free to view (blue) sky card, if you bought it within the last 2 years its a free upgrade - I now have a new white one :)

Absolutely agree - why on earth would anyone buy a Sky box when you can get all the BBC/ITV/4/5 channels and more for free? Just one point - the box (ours goes by the wonderful name of "Dreambox"!) will pick up all the channels in Spain and Portugal if you attach it to a larger dish.

John,

I bought a Sky box (£15) because I already had Sky at home. I was looking for a dish when the Sky engineer came to fit the Sky in my home. He gave me a brand new one for nothing.

I can take my viewing card away with me and get Sky free.

If I did not have Sky, I would have gone for Freesat as it is a good system. The trouble is, Freesat do not do a Broadband and Telephone bundle like Sky.

Dirty Digger

I'd rather poke my eyes out than pay for Sky.

The Dirty Digger has done me out of Test Matches, Six Nations England games, etc, etc, He is the biggest rip off merchant on the planet, there is always something else to pay for :mad::mad::mad:

It is strange how Sky have managed to fool a large number of people into paying for what is a free service.

The Lidl/Aldi/Maplin receiver boxes are made by Comag and are a good receiver, possibly more sensitive than the Sky box but the LNB will also make a difference.

I can get all channels as far south as Roses in Spain on my Lidl set up. It's a bit delicate to find the satellite but works well.

Do not tune to "Hotsat" it is disgusting and not suitable for family viewing.

we akep getting a reminder that five was going to disapear but hubby has found a website that gave him numbers to get a free to view five so he added some numbers to add channels and low and behold we can get five without a crad, wont work with fiver of fiveus or sky three if you want frequencies let me know and i will give them to you

Never heard of Hotsat, where is it (azimuth, elevation & LNB skew)so I can make sure not to point my dish at it

I thinks its his public duty to inform us where this disgusting object is positioned in the night sky. QUICKLY :D

Hiya,
Been in the van today and tried our sky telly, with the blue 'freesat' card. Its working fine. Does it cut off at a given time after initial purchase or what?
I think we've had ours about 4 years.
We will be taking the one from the house when we go off in Feb, as we pay for extra channels on that one.
Jackie ;)
