i've just become a memeber of the 'ive put the wrong fuel in my car' club, now i know what some of you are going to say, but i'm sure i'm not on my own, i am in need of some advice, see how i turn to my trusty friends on here, now then, i wont bore you with all the details of how and when, yawn yawn, cos i've done it now, i had to drive a short distance to the garage, had it drained and been and put more deisel in, oh by the way, its a peugot 306 turbo diesel car, it drov eok for a short while but now i cant rev more than 2500 its seems to have lost all power, the engine management system light is on, could this be the reason? will i have to have the EMS reset or should i keep the engine running until any trace of petrol is gone, the mechanic who did the car has now gone off on his hols for a week so i cant ring himm i thought someone on heremay know, it also may be interesting to see just how many have done it, or who will own up to it

Your car is in Limp mode if it is not revving above 2500 rpm. It is designed to protect the engine, the car needs to visit a garage with diagnostic equiptment to reset the dash light and fix any further problems if that doesn't resolve.

just for the record my rover75 went in for head gasket repair coupla yrs ago)part ov deal ov avin new car was a courtesy car. we were off on hols and had 75 loaded,the garage lent me a 45, i drove down road and filled wiv petrol,guess what? it was diesel!!!!!drove like a petrol tho!anyways they recovered vehicle and wen they ad stopped laffin gave me a fully fuelled 25!!!!!i asked if this ad probs then what wud i get ?they said a metro lol.mind they did try to bill me£220 for rec.and empty tank.

Once pulled into a garage in France and the attendant tried to put diesel in my fresh water tank - but at least he knew it was a diesel engine!

Let it run/idle for 30mins - 1hr, letting it pull all the wrong fuel residue through, diesels arent as bad with petrol as vice versa. The ECU is correct in retarding the engine as it has sensed somethings wrong.

After you have finished idling disconnect the battery for 20mins then reconnect, this usually resets all the sensors. Thats all a garage will do.

Correct Fuel

Hi J,
Hard being human, as I was once told you can't take the Lell out of living.
However Pug 306 D Turbo will be fine just take it for a good run and it should clear all the petrol through and return to normal running.
They do have a fuel filter in under the bonnet and it can be drained, after which you just start it in the normal way (it may take a while) but if the garage drained the tank they probably did it anyway.
Don't worry it'll be fine, Pug engines are brill and indestructable.

If this doesn't work, if you can get here for about 10:30 - Steve will put diagnostic on the works machine and reset for you but it will be a trawl for you to get here I know.

Thanks Chrissy, i woudnt be able to get there, the car only runs for 5 mins then just stops dead, and with everyone having xmas stress heads on i may get stabbed or summat lol, but many thanks for your kind offer

Sounds like there is still petrol in there and the engine is being starved of fuel, possibly the fuel filter or maybe a damaged fuel pump. Did the garage empty or replace the fuel filter?

no, he just emptied the tank, he said it wouldnt need changing, i have since been told to change the fuel filter, i think this is the problem TBH, i owuld happen as all the roads are covered in snow and everyone is on holidays, what a b***r

If you can get to the fuel filter, disconnect the hoses and unscrew it, tip all of the petrol out and refit, you may be lucky
