I dare say this has been covered before, on the way home from lakes we had a nasty blow out, luckily no one hurt, no damage to vehicle and I had prepared my jacks and wrenches before we left so on with the spare and home we got. On closer inspection I am going to replace all 7 tyres (ouch!) I've always had the michelins on both motorhomes but wander if the vancos would be a good replacement for a 5.2 t vehicle.
What opinions do you lovely people have?

hi
i had a blowout like that nearly 2 years ago. i got such a shock i
replaced them all as they were khumos and to old. i used michelin
comercial 10 ply, they are still on so dont know what the others are like.

I needed to replace all 4 on my van last August so did the usual research and decided to go with Michelin Agilis Camping tyres. The reviews were pretty good but what swayed it for me was that when I was phoning around to compare prices, every tyre fitter I spoke with (and 2 mechanics I know) all were of the opinion that you can't go wrong with Michelin. I've done about 3,500 miles on them now and been happy with the choice from a ride / road noise / cofidence perspective.

14,000 miles on my Michelin agilis, no problems, seem to be wearing well and little road noise. I would use them again. If you are a member at Costco you will see deals on Michelin tyres if you fit in multiples.

We're only on 3.5t but replaced the tyres last year, went for Michelin Agilis, which had been on from new, (13 years old, still good condition, purely changed cos of age, but thought if they lasted so well, why change make). Think we bought them through black circle online, delivered to and fitted by ATS, good service, no complaints, and cheapest.

Michelin every time for me on our 5300kg van. They are dearer but not by that much and can recommend Black Circles re price and availability.

Another one for Michelin Agilis Camping tyres. I will be looking for 4 tyres for the back end this year.

And another vote for Michelin Agilis camping tyres,they have been faultless for 18 months and 5000 miles,no problems apart from a nail in one of them which fortunately was in the centre of the tread and so could be repaired.They are not the cheapest but are the best in my opinion,It's best not to compromise on tyres.

Yep, Had 7 of these Michelin Agilias Tyres fitted in April this year, Well Over £800 including the High Pressure Valves, but in my opinion worth every penny, Much Quieter ride,
Mine are at 65psi all around, and that's the rating actually printed on the tyre Wall as well (I've got 15inch NOT 16inch).
Very Happy so far in Muddy, Icy Lanes & on Long Open Motorway's & A Roads.

Axel weights
1=1750kg
2=1400kg
3=1400kg

I'm a Fulltime Livaboard, Move 3/4 times a week (ish) I'm plated to 4500kg, BUT Ave everyday ready to go Everyday Vehicle weight is around the 4000 - 4150KG. (yep regularly go on Weigh Bridges)
Expensive---Probably !
Find Cheaper---Probably !
Happy with my decision---YEP !.
Would I Fit them again---Yep !.

As you would Hope with New Tyres fitted & correctly maintained I haven't had THIS yet,

Michelin for me. When I bought the van, I replaced four tyres with Michelin Agilis Alpin, and I found the local independent tyre man to be the cheapest, and fitting and balancing was included. Also got four new rims from Oponeo as cheaper than blasting and powder coating old rusty rims. Tyre man also advised me which was the best rim and tyre to keep for spare, including swapping them over.

Thanks folks, as I thought, michelins would come out tops. Have been offered 7 new Firestone vanhawks from a pal, runs Iveco 6.5 race motorhome but never had nowt to do with them. Anyway, got a couple of weeks to decide plus I need another spare rim and I've got to straighten my euroliner trim out. Must also find it on the dash cam as Mrs GM thought the world had blown up! ( delicate lady bless her)

steel tyre valves

I am about to have 4 new Michelin Agilis Camper tyres fitted to my old Hymer but I am confused over the high pressure bolt-in valves. Should they be routinely replaced? And if so, where is the best place online to buy them?

Hi ya,
The Fitters 'Should' fit New High pressure valves in the rims as part of the job, Mine did !.
Worth making absolutely sure though as the Standard Valves are only rated to around the 60psi I think, & I run All 7 of my Michelin Agilis Tyres at 65psi !.

Isn`t that way too high for the rear axles, i was under the impression that the tag axle ran approx 45psi in the rears.

I have experimented with a few pressures in 5psi increment's from 50-65psi & Found the latter ok with The Nest the Load it carries & the way its distributed throughout as ultimately its THEASE factors that help determine the tyer Pressure in my mind. it just feels a comfier drive !.
So maybe when you get yours fitted, Play around a little within the realms of being sensible of course to find the sweet spot !.

You should not powder coat rims as its for inside use only,epoxy prime & polyurathane two pack £15 a wheel,done zillions of them when i ran spraycraft ltd.

Our 2007 Chausson came with Continetal Vanco tyres all round when we bought it in 2011. After at least one trip to France the MOT turned up a very nasty bulge and perishing to the centre of one rear, and on checking, the other rear was perished as well. After a lot of researching we changed them for Michelin Agilis and put them on the front. The difference was immediate. Quiter, smoother and deffinately more grip. A few months later the (now) rears were due for renewal. So they became Agilis as well. Same result plus after a while we started to notice an improvement in MPG of about 2-3 MPG, not much, but it all helps. They even got us out of a very snowy Normandie one winter without having to stop to put the chains on. Our latest camper is a Dethleffs i8 2013, and it has half worn Conti's all round. They will be changed for Michelins as and when they need to be. The only downside in my opinion with the Michelins is they do tend to wear a little quicker, but then that is the penalty you pay for extra grip.

I`m just about to order 4 225/65 R16 Q (112) Michelin Agilis Camping from Black Circle for £146.47 each fully fitted and balanced, cheapest locally was £181.25. Just wondering if anybody knows a cheaper supplier. Cheers.
