Leaky Kontiki

Well it finally happened I have a leak in the kontiki, phew I was begining to think it was not a genuine Kontiki ;)

Anyway the leak is around the heater chimney.

Some advise or a sense check would be nice before I remove it and try to reseal it.
I can see a screw inside holding the metal flu pipe in place and a large threaded plastic screw around the chimney inside which I'm guessing needs to be undone to release it from the roof.

Having looked on the web I'm not sure if I can reseal it with Sika or whether I just need to replace a rubber seal, any help appreciated

Is that it guys oris there anything else I should watch out for?

Thanks in advance.

Sealant

Easy option is to seal from the outside.I have used polyuretane PU 40
from Toolstation part no-67949 £3.59 white.Very good stuff.

If you clean off any existing sealant you may find you can adjust the rubber seal or you may cut it by mistake and wish you had just masticed over the top.
Be carefull if you start unscrewing stuff that you can get to the other side to hold while you tighten it up .You may find the internal side is hidden and inaccessable and wish you had left it alone(we have all been there!!!)

Good luck!!

Recently had the same problem myself on an Autotrail.
You can buy the rubber seal from Oleary,s but my bet is the seal is fine its just the sealant perished as it was in my case.

If you can undo the O ring inside under the roof you will probably find a screw holding the outer flue to the plastic chimney, undo that and you will be able to lift the chimney a few inches to get the old sealant out and rubber off to inspect.
Replace rubber if needed and put a good sealant under rubber seal and around the chimney thread. Then tighten up.

kneel on something

Sorry ,should have added .Good idea to kneel on somthing on the roof or you knees may dent the soft alloy.

Thanks Buddy, My thoughts exactly about the sealant. Its gone brittle in a few external seams I can see. Just the info I needed about being able to lift it a few inches.
