12mm if its original ,some after market ones are 10mm
You will need a bit more than a standard 5ltr oil container to drain into and to refill .
I live in Old Windsor if you want to borrow one.

sump key
be carefull when undoing the plug it is very easy to round off the hexagon inside the sump plug.
make sure the allen key is well seated into the plug.
if you have any difficulty (i did) i used a pair of mole wrenches to undo the plug.

Guys if you do damage the sump nut all is not lost.
I recently sold a sealy sump pump, this is a vacuum pump that fits down through an engines dip stick hole and sucks the oil out. They use them on boats and other engines where getting to the sump nut is either not possible or its not practicable.
My father owns a boat and showed me how it worked he also uses it for his cars as it means not crawling underneath and there is also no spillage on the floor.

Pump should be last resort especially on a diesel.The sump plug drains the silt from the sump,the sump plug may also have a magnetic tip to be cleared..
Some BIG commercial opertators do infrequent oil charges but test the oil and add the necessary components but change the filters.

Absolutley this should be last resort for the reasons given but its nice to know there are options when you've rounded off the sump nut other than replacing the sump

a lot of modern vehicles i work on dont have a sump bung ,you have to use a pump. a lot of mercedes cars have no dipstick it is checked electicaly making an oil change a pain
