I don't bother with a dedicated mifi unit. I just use a redundant unlocked Smartphone as a wifi hotspot on a 3 phone/data allowance. Allows up to 5 devices to be connected, usually power it off a USB source rather than relying on the fairly limited phone battery life.

Not my experience. I have two identical mifi units and used to have a Three sim in one, an EE sim in the other. EE was the best for speed and for coverage almost everywhere. I have stopped bothering with the Three sim.

However, for use in Europe, Three is far cheaper.

That is what the man said in the phone shop at Oban about EE been the best for coverage in the highlands I know Vodafone didn't work for me at all!!

As in post #21 just depends where you are located. Coverage between the 4 providers varies and 3 is one of these, but the various companies that "piggyback' off these parent providers should get the same signal quality as the parent, or at least that's what the regulators state.

We go away every other weekend, usually within a couple of hours drive from glasgow, so perthshire, argyll etc.
We have between us :two work phones on Vodaphone, a personal iphone on 3, an iphone on EE, a mifi unit on 3, and old o2 sim. I can honestly say that it 'depends' hahaha
Not very helpful I know. I'm surprised at the guy in Oban saying Vodaphone is no use; if I had a gun to my head I'd say we've been more likely to get a signal with them.
The 3 cards were brilliant in France this year and we also had no probs in the states other than my mifi wasn't compatible with their frequency. The iphone with 3 worked fine.

Yep, Yet another vote for '3 Huawei' I'm on PAYG 3GB at £15,,VERY rare I don't get connected, I must say that the only down side is that any unused credit DOESN'T get rolled over,,Which is a shame.
