portable washing machines

Been doing that for years, really works well. Try charity shops or carboots for a cheap one, - ideal for socks and smalls! Also have a washer something like Annie's, but as husband moans so much about the room it takes up, have only used it a few times, combined with the salad spinner. Now it HAS to stay home as there is definitely no room in our campervan, so if anyone is interested, let me know. (I'm keeping the salad spinner, managed to find room!)

dreadful times, but my wife kept 6 of us in clean clothes for years using one of these download.jpe and as a bedford driver, filthy oily jeans came up a treat !

I'm following with interest as we've just returned from three months in France and Spain, washed beddin and towels at the launderette and soaked smalls in a bucket overnight which works well, just looking to save a bit on the launderette.

Review of Twin Tub

OK. It arrived and we panicked. Yes, we'd measured the shower where it was to live ... it really did not look like it was gonna fit and then there'd have been another one up for sale on this thread! However, packaging removed and it slotted really easily into the shower.

We were on a CL with EHU, but I tested off our fully charged batteries and 700 watt sine wave inverter. It would have done one load only before our leisure batteries were dry i.e. wash, spin out suds, rinse and final spin. Clothes and jeans all came out very clean and pretty dry. Impressed with how good a clean. Having read someone's advice on this thread about re-using the suds for a second load, I did this too ... the leisure batteries than started to groan and the EHU went back on. Off grid we could've run the engine (mindful of people nearby, of course!). The washer takes a really decent size load. But had to split one load going through the spinner as this is a fair bit smaller

I will continue to soak most clothes (not jeans, towels and bedding) for 24 hours in my pot with a lid (large plastic container that in a former life contained Haribo, and no, I did not munch my way through the contents!) and use the twin tub for a very short wash, then rinse and spin. It uses no more water to rinse than I do when I hand rinse; probably less. I will use it fully for the bulky items only when we have EHU on a CL or aire, and as these don't get washed that often (we are not that unclean ... we do have more than one set of bedding and towels!).

Whether hand washing or using the machine, we will need to have a good supply of water nearby. I reckon my two biggish loads used just over 40 litres, but I washed a lot more than I would normally hand wash in one go.

The only negative is that drains for the base and it is too big to sit on a surface in the van, so i will have to use it when we can put it outside. Might see if we can put the drain pipe down the shower drain .... then I won't even need to move it!

Overall, pleased we bought it. With dog towels and bedding that are usually banned from site machines and the cost of machines, it will have paid for itself in about 8 months.
