I have a 3 way fridge in my van, at the mo i can only run it on 240.

What do i need to run it on the gas? At the moment i have the main gas feed coming out of the Fridge and its running to the exsisting Gas points for the Cooker/ oven, what joints to i need, im just gonna put a flexi on the end st8 to a gas bottle regulator

Goto Dometic refrigerators - Download Dometic Manuals and download the manual for your fridge. It will have fitting instructions and usually directions that only a qualified gas installer do the gas hookup.

You can do things like making sure the correct spacing around the fridge, top and bottom vents, etc.

You'll also need 12V connection (depending on the age of the fridge) to operate the igniter, "gas out circuit" and the thermostat, other models may have just piezo igniter.

try it in the garage on gas before you put it in van cos if it needs a service you wont be happy will you

If I read your post correctly you have all the pipework installed and your just missing the gas bottle connection?

I don't think there is a need for everyone to start spouting health and safety over this:(

Your main copper gas pipe is going to be 8mm (but possibly 10mm diameter). Buy from internet, caravan, boat, M/H accessory place an 8mm straight to barbed connector, a piece of rubber hose, jubilee clips and a regulator to suit your gas bottle.

The rubber hose is important. It will have a British Standard code on it and a recent manufacture date. Do not use an old bit of rubber fuel pipe, it is not the same thing and unsuitable for gas .

As Roger pointed out you may need a 12v supply for the sparker, the older ones do not need 12v for the "clicky button" type ignition, or flame failure the thermocouple does that.

The 12v would need to be installed sooner or later anyway, so best get a (thickish) wire to it before you build it in:D You can then run the fridge on 12v while driving. Need to wire it in properly so it switches off with the ignition via a relay straight to the battery.

Ye it has the main feed pipe runnig from the fridge, all i need is what u said. I want to have a go because they seem to run better on gas than they do on 240v

Cheers

I'd expect the fittings to be BSP if the fridge was sold for the UK market - but could also be metric with olive fittings. The BSP fittings are usually brass and you need a flaring tool to make up the piping - best get a gas fitter. Metric olives are usually steel and are just screw together.

Ideally the fridge gas supply should have a tap to isolate it, some (all?) need the tap to turn off the gas supply to then run the fridge on electricity.

Don't forget that you also need a permanently open top and bottom vent fitted to the van habitation area to ensure CO cannot build up inside the van when on gas.

...... and don't forget the "chimney" connection as well.

Find a local corgi gas installer, it will cost you a few bob but if your family die in an explosion or from fumes, you will not spend years in prison for manslaughter. One area where you cant cut costs
