Site being upgraded...

Just to recommend a little site at Huna (along coast from John O' Groats).
The owner John is currently upgrading his site (C&CC) and I and another member on here (MikeH) have visited the site last week.
I priced the site at John O' Groats and they wanted £13 for a pitch and an extra £2.50 for EHU, and it was busy, so decided to go further along the coast where I found John's site.
Nice and quiet, just what we like.

We stopped there 3 years ago the ladies were closed the gents and shower were disgusting when I spoke to the owner ( at that time ) he told us to go b****** o** if we were not happy we had paid for one night but no refund.

Ever since them we look at the toilets and shower before paying any fees.it is only in eary autum we visit sites we normally wild camp.

lets hope it is a new owner as well as an upraded site the views from here are fantastic

The present owner (John and his wife) have been there 6 years. We found both to be very friendly and welcoming. John did say the showers werent yet finished but the new toilet block was well under way and we found it more than adequate.

At £7 per night plus £1 for electric I thought it was a bargain. This is what you get:

It was a Grass only site when we called the man we spoke to was an elderly gent

Yeah the gravel parking area is quite recent. The first time I stayed there it was mostly grass (I was on my bike then and used the static caravan).

This should be a really good site once the showers are ready.

Looking at the photo you have a tent near by,id find another scenic spot lol

LOL the guy came over and apologised. Asked if we wanted him to move his car!

There were a couple of other "tenters", one after the other, but they were on the little lawn around the other side, well out of our view.

If Alf was there 3 years ago and was told to "go away" if he didn't like it and the present owners have been there 6 years I can only come to the conclusion that it must have been the same owners.
Unless there is another site in the area which is causing confusion? I remember passing a ramshackle looking place last year on our way to Gills Bay. Is this it?

BTW According to the C&CC website, there are no sites at all in that area!

Yes this is the one the ramshackle looking place was the site office in the day time it looks to have gone now it looked like THE LOCAL CARAVAN SITE FOR LOCAL PEOPLE if you get the drift however the photos make it look good the old gezzer must have been a passing tinker next time we are up we will give a try again we have past dozens of times and never seen anyone there and such a terrific spot.

There was a C&CC sign in his window. It sounds like the same place and man to me but John that lives there and owns the site is nice as pie - least he is to me

Anyway, this is the website: Stroma View Campsite

I can only reiterate what Mike says.
I found John to be very approachable and had a good old chinwag about various things.
I think I'll be back if I'm in that area again.

Like Alf, we've passed it loads of times and passed it 'cos it looked such a dump (and we weren't LOCAL :) ) It certainly didn't look like MikeH's photos.
We'll give it a another look next time we're in the area though.
