I have been looking for a torch for my next 10 days car camping trip and stumbled across this "torch charger" on Youtube and was surprised at its multi-function, so I tapped the share button.

Suaoki Power Bank and Safety Torch - YouTube

A torch and at the same time can be a power bank for devices usb charging, also it comes with a SOS flashlight, a hammer, seat belt cutter. A little bit fancy but maybe I would need them one day. I thought I would give it a spin. Any thoughts from the masses?

I had some of these left over from my stock with a recharble battery and 2 aa which i also changed to regharge type,i also changed the bulb to led,it can be wound up or charged with a mains charger or from usb plus it has a radio and warning siren and flashing red led in case i get attacked by the wife.
All in cost £5

Looks quite awesome your diy work, I have seen this kind of lanterns before. It's my friends who have a similar lantern with a hand crank. As he has described, it's a torch/lantern/radio/siren which can be charged by USB and power phone in an emergency.

Personally we use a rechargeable CREE LED torch sourced from ebay complete with a 12v charger and spare battery (about £10 / £12). It produces a very powerful light is zoom-able and lasts for ages. Prefer a simple function device as in emergency, or when woken from sleep, I wouldn't want to remember how to use a multi-function device.

I have one to but my torch is simple with just a top switch for torch and the rest is on side ,no need to fiddle at night with it plus its big and easy to find.
Any way my camper lights are fitted with a remote which you can take to bed and switch main lights of after you tucked in,these are the benifits of a self build.

My favourite is my Petzl head torch. Very powerful and batteries last for ages. Also very light to wear.

I've had it about 5 years now and will replace it with similar when it expires.

I to have a head torch in workshop & home ,would be handy in camper though i dont think you could sleep with one on.:lol-049::lol-049:

Motion detectors in my van get up for a pee they turn on go back to bed they turn off they are situated so that when I turn over in bed it does not activate. And have 2 Led Lenser torches a P14 and then a smaller pocket sized one for outdoor use.

Sounds pretty cool. Is this the same to the toilet motion lantern?
