We are planning to spend Feb to May 2017 in Southern Spain and wonder if any of you guys can recommend a good campsite that we can use as a base for 3 months? We would like a lively area ie Benidorm with lots going on and to be within walking distance of the beach and shops.
Any advice is much appreciated.

We spent three months in Camping Raco in 2014 and having seen/stayed in a few others we can't really fault it. However, it's a 20 minute walk down the hill to the beach. The No. 10 bus to town goes past the site entrance. Camping Torreta is closer but we think it's noisy and not as well organised.

If you want a lively area, our choice may not be of use to you but we use Camping Cabo de Gata near Almeria. A kilometre walk to the beach, past a lagoon with flamingos on it. The nearest village is a couple of kilometres away. It is a very quiet location (which is why we like it) in the middle of a Natural Park, so no high rise buildings. There are a lot of greenhouses but they don't bother us anymore. It is the driest part of Spain and winter daytime temperatures average 17 or 18 Celcius (higher this year). Frost is very rare. It can be windy though (as can the whole of the east and south coast of Spain). Long-term camping rates are less than £9 per day. Good luck with your search.

Just flagging this thread so I can find it again. Useful information. Thanks

Plenty of Camp sites in Benidorm, bit expensive though, spoilt for choice, the CCC is running a rally there too and people I know who have used it say it is a great venue, bus nearby too.

I checked out the site at Balerma last July. I plan to go in october for the winter. May be too quiet for some, but right next to the beach(plan to do some fishing) Also plan to go back to Cabo de Gata. I walked from San Jose along the cliffs to very pretty coves and beach's Lots of sites on the Costa del Sol which may suit better.Just talked to someone who had come back from Marbella, told me that the bars are much cheaper now. Probably having to compete with all enclusive holidays.:)

Thanks for that info. Had a look at the website and it looks really nice. 15 euros a night with water and electric included. At the top of our list!
