I have a swift, and the side skirts are suffering from pinhole rusting. Because they are corrugated treating/filling them won't be easy. I have come across some PVC sheeting that isn't too dear. It'3mm thick.I was wondering whether to try making new panels and sticking them over the existing ones with sikaflex or just rubbing the originals down and painting. All thoughts or suggestions welcome.

When you say pinhole rusting do you mean perforated, as in rusted right through? If so, I fear that it may be more serious than you think & would need replacing.

As Izzy says if they have pinholes in them now they won`t get better by just covering them up, they need replacing :hammer:

I have the same problem on my Kontiki although not to a large extent, at the moment. As far as replacing the skirting there are two major problems, the first being to obtain new panels. The second is how to remove, as they appear to me to have been sandwiched between the side wall and floor when constructed. so not an easy/possible job. I look forward to any experiences of how to repair. I am considering a thin skin of epoxy resin but how to get to the inside is the same problem.

I think getting new panels won't be an option unless you can get some custom made. There are some companies who will make anything in PVC or similar materials. I haven't looked cos I imagine they could be expensive. Because they are sandwiched my thought was getting thin sheets of PVC and glueing on to side skirts with sikaflex. Even if I could get rid of all signs of rust, which would be hard cos of the corrugations on the skirts , it would soon come back. I understand that it is caused by some kind of reaction between different metals. That's why I was thinking about the plastic, as a permanent cover up.

Try O'Leary for panels.
