I use a Garmin Zumo on the motorbike and in my work van and recently bought a cheapo 7" sat-nav to use in the motorhome but these Garmin CAMPER sat-navs seem like a real bargain at £200.

They are currently being sold in various places for around £300

They come with free lifetime map updates and have ASCI and MHF camping grounds of Europe pre loaded etc

The 19" combo 12v TV is what I will be queing for at 8am on Thursday morning (£100) but there are other things like aquarolls etc so worth a look IMHO

You can buy a 19" Combi TV from Argos now for £100 with no hassles

Although I use a similar Garmin myself (not a camper version), and I do find it far superior to TomTom, I would not get too excited by this version. You do not need to delve too deeply into the World Wide Web to find out maybe just why it has suddenly appeared at a discounted price! http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/commun...Garmin-Sat-Nav-Camper-760LMT-D/rt/808574/?p=0 Having said that I am still sort of curious by the deal, as my Garmin has a small crack in the screen which is now getting bigger, and also I am sure that some people that have problems with satnav's generally do not have them set up properly.

sat nav

I have one of these and got one the first year it came out. I have used it in campervan mode for around 10 trips around Europe with know faults at all. its loaded with boardatlas and camperstop poi,s and other sites I find on the internet. OK its not all that great compared with the one in my BMW but for the money a good buy I would say. I paid a lot more years back. michael

I bought one as we needed a new satnav. It's fallen at the first hurdle, apparenty my 9 ft van can fit underneath a local 8ft 6" bridge.

I dread to think how well it would work in Lyon!!!

Thanks for the update Norm, which has confirmed what reviewers on Amazon have said previously - that the dimensions/restrictions algorithms on the Garmin system don't work properly. This is has been stated before but many loyal users simply refuse to accept it.

You are not alone Norm: last year in Spain my TomTom Truck tried to send me through a 2.5m culvert!

Are sure you didn't have it set for a walking route? 2.5m is over 8 feet, how wide is your Hymer?

Truck route and the culvert was signposted 2.5m high. That wasn't the first time either, and we have also been directed into a fair few open fields, but we'll stick with it and take nothing for granted.

Well, bit the bullet and bought one on Thursday. I have uploaded all the WC POI's and additional ones for the main parts of Europe including separate one's for France and Spain. All seems to be working well, at least as well as the other Garmins that I have. I was at first a bit taken back by the size of the thing, but then realised that I can now read a GPS without the need for glasses! As for being directed into a field I have yet to come across that one, and I have had a GPS from the first ones that came out, including marine versions.

Nav systems not warning you!

On one of our first trips to France in camping car we were using a 'Page-turner' navigation system (Co-pilot + Michelin map book!) and found ourselves about to rip the roof off with a low bridge on the dual carriageway ring road around Orleans, I think. Completely missed the low bridge and headroom signs and the navigation system certainly didn't bring it to my notice! So we got a Tom-tom.:lol-053:

Just installed the poi's on my new Garmin 760 from Aldi.
No problems, very similiar to my old Nuvi.
Having a run out tomoss to try it out, will look for known low bridges etc and see what happens. Fingers crossed it will stop me and redirect to another route.

A thing thats oft forgotten is the software may be fine but the map data is incorrect

I have seen an garmin montana 300 and a snooper make exactly the same mistake

The software is different but the base map data probably comes from the same source

Rich

Absolutely, but selling a £400 satnav on the ability to route around low bridges that then fails to notice 2 low bridges that have been there for over 150 years is bad news. If their UK database provider isn't up to scratch then they just shouldn't sell this satnav for use in the UK.

Just as a test, where is this bridge?

I'd like to try my TomTom and see if it passes the test or not ...

My mate Alan got one yesterday, and asked me to go round to have a look as he couldn't work out why it took almost 7 hours to download the stuff on it, apparently it comes empty with zilch on it, but we still could not find the maps on it, until we downloaded something from the garmin website, then another almost 2 hours,,, why so long, tom tom its straight from the box.:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:
