Help!

Hi, I am new to this site and need some help.... Back in October I brought a caravan and had it all branded up to promote our website, re-sprayed black and then sign writtern with the site address etc... Most of the time it is not a problem finding some where to stay with the van as the motorbike events we go to have camping on site but when we turned up at a site in Peterborough they allowed us to stay but told us that we would not be able to come back and that we would find it very difficult to find anywhere else that would allow us to stay. Does anyone know of any sites throughout the UK that would allow us to stay at their campsite? many thanks!

.

... are you actively promoting a business where ever you stay.. trading and/or attempting to trade ..
and it's a sign writen caravan that you also sleep in..... is that right

regards:confused:

Hi ajs

Yes we are actively advertising the website, its an online directory for bikers so not activitley selling/trading etc, just awareness. It is sign written and we do sleep in it. we use it to go to the bike shows but would also like to go away for weekends etc in our own time...

Sorry cant help with sites, but I hate this snotty attitude of some site owners, we once went to a site in our new caravan, as I was a dog handler in a past life we used to take our dogs with us, I used my dog van to tow the caravan, I was turned away by the site owner as we were towing with a van. The attitude of some of the site wardens I have come across both private and caravan club stinks. Good luck with your search for sites.

You could report them to Trading Standards. If they haven't got something about it in their rules, they may possibly be breaking the Trade Descriptions Act by turning you away.

At the least it may make them think twice when the next person turns up towing a caravan or with their tent in the back of the company van.

Geez, its nice to know that some businesses are doing so well they can turn trade away.

Personally I'd be putting a non libellous statement on your website about their helpful attitude.

snotty site owners

we too had to fight our corner when turning up to a pre-booked holiday camp site in devon for our tent but we turned up in our van/conversion. they even suggested we should be charged extra because our van had berths in it !
if it wasn't for the kids (and having paid up front ) i would have lost my rag.
sometimes it seems like the world is against you.....welcome to wildcamping !!

a friend of mine asked at a caravan club site what time the gate opened on the monday so he could go to his place of work ,and was told he could not stay the weekend and go straight to work, and he is a member

That attitude really sucks. When I worked near Edinburgh there was once such bad weather I decided to camp mon - thurs instead of driving 40 miles home each night...and the CC site in Edinburgh must have noted my comings and goings and asked whether I was working nearby - and then said I couldn't stay any more! And that was in an ordinary motorhome!

Its this sort of attitude that really pees me off, I was at a CC site in London last week, I was walking my dog from my M/H to the entrance, the warden followed me on his little tractor and told me not to walk my dog on the site, I explained that I was leaving the site to walk my dog, he asked me to take a more direct route, I told him I walked via the bins to dump my rubbish ! he said in future can I dump it without my dog ! I smiled and walked away before I blew a fuse ! The site had a dozen or so M/H and caravans and was like a ghost town, I wonder why ! Some wardens become little Hitlers when they get that green uniform, in all fairness some are spot on, but some really do need to get a life.

Tom (Rant over)

Thanks

Thanks guys for all your comments....
No wonder we got treated like we did with a branded up caravan!! Can't believe some of the things you have mentioned.... Thought caravaning was suppose to be fun and relaxing.

On a positive note we did get to stay at a site in Strafford on Saturday night without any issues.. well it was a farmers field. lol

Campsites

Hi there. Know where your coming from. As a biker I have found the best way round this problem is to go to the UK Campsite web page and find a site in the area you want to stay and give them a phone, explain your not a gang of marauding "Hell's Angels" and 9 times out of 10 you will be welcomed. Hope this helps. By the way what is the web site you are promoting. Cheers Jim.

Website

Hi Jim

The website is www.118biker.co.uk an online directory for "bikers". Category and County driven.

Found a link on the forum that someone had posted for a site in Doncaster and gave them a call and they are happy for us to turn up with the branded up caravan... So just a case planning in advance. I have added an image to my profile now so if you see us out and about give us a shout! :)

a few years ago we went to the new forest on our honda goldwing 1500 we went to about 5 campsites but told were full even though it was plain to see there were loads of spaces.as we left the last site a gardener stopped us and said there was only one site that would take bikers ,when we got there we were segregated from the other campers as if we had some sort of disease, thats why in the camper we are 1oo% wild

At the risk of going off-topic, we've had the same problem when camping on the bike.

Most people haven't cottoned on to the fact that most bikers are middle-aged old farts who usually bring their wives along and anyway are too past it to stay up late.

We purchased an Ex demonstrator camper that had a website and telephone number put on with small sticky lettering. We were let into the Caravan Club site at Abbey Wood, but were advised that really, we shouldn't be alowed in as they do not allow advertising.
