New Dash Cam, advice please.

I have just treated myself to a nifty little dash cam for my upcoming tour. I've fitted it and it looks neat.
But, the display reads "fit sd card". The instructions say a micro sd card is required.
My question is; is the micro sd card the same as fitted in a mobile phone and if so, does it have to be a prepaid one, help please.
Thanks
Kath

You just want a 16 or 32gb micro SD card not free paid Sim card

Should just be a Micro SD as those made by Sandisk, no pre pay, just a couple of quid or so to buy. It is just a storage media for your camera, does it state what size?

If not can you post the make/model of the camera.

My dash can advised on a minimum speed rating so may be worth checking the instructions.

The Micro SD card is what the video footage is recorded onto which can then be viewed on the PC / Laptop etc

It is not a Pre Paid or Sim card

If you look in the instruction it will say a maximum size of card that it will take, the larger ( GB ) the card the more it will store.

I always got for " Class 10 " cards as i find the quality is much better than lower class cards.

I got mine from halfords last year it's called ( next base model 402g ) full hd why I liked it was the size, it has loop function, screen is not a flip type. You put the softwear on the lap top plug it in and away you go, you can also play back at anytime on the camera itself, I move mine from my car to the van hope that helps :goodluck:

i had had to get sd card also the paper work should explain this

Thanks everyone.
The model is a G1W.
The instructions just state, fit micro sd, no size given.

Size is up to you. Bigger = more video time.

Don't need anything too big though, as camera should just over write old video. 8Gb maybe?

Ok, I've read all responses, watched the video and I think I'm sorted.
Much prefer you lot to think I'm thick than the guy in the shop.
One last thing, you still buy the card from a phone shop, right?
Thanks again.
Kath.

Lots of places sell them Tesco, Asda, Currys, PC World, Ebay and so on.

got one of ebay for 12 squid and a 32 gig class 10 card for 4 all works a treat, then i won another for 8 bucks so it will go in the car.

Kath, no one thinks you are thick because you ask a question. I think the thick ones are the ones who don't ask and then buy the wrong item.

do not buy a big capacity card 8-16 maybe 32 but it make a problem going back to search for a fill in among a huge pile of files.

I have a 32GB class 10...not to big at all......how many people scroll through all their journeys?.If you have a prang at 3.30 pm you just look for that file. get the biggest you can so much simpler.

Most cams should have a facility to flag up an incident. This also prevents it being overwritten. 32 gb class 10 Sandisc or Samsung from a UK. seller on Ebay is how I would go about it.

I bought a 'Crash cam' & installed a 16g sd card in it. Set it up on a loop recording, about 10 min intervals which overwrites all the time. After all, all you really need is the last couple of minutes before a crash to prove who was at fault? Hopefully it won't be me, otherwise it will suddenly go missing!:lol-053:
