The remaining job this year is to lower the noise level in the cab. Noise Killer doesn't do a kit for the Sprinter, so after a chat with their Steve Bithell I've bought a large engine blanket to suit the in-line engine, 2m of floor mat, egg box sound absorbent to go under the dash and some damping panels for the footwells and wheel arches. I mentioned the glue incident posted on here, and he didn't remember it, but he did say that he doesn't recommend glueing inside the engine compartment for that very reason: it would have to be at the request of the customer.

I will document the fit out as usual, but any hints and tips beforehand will be most welcome!:help:

I look forward to your future posts on this John, my Hymer has the Fiat 2.8JTD and we cannot hear the engine unless accelerating hard, I think because we had an Iveco Daily 2.5 then a 1994 Transit based van previously we probably think this is quiet so I will watch with interest, I do need something to drown out the clatter from Maggy though so any tips on that I will be grateful for
 
I'm going through the same process with mine and have recently added an engine blanket, as mentioned above it does seem to cut out the high frequency sounds.
My next step will be anti rattle pads for the bulkhead, I will be following this thread with a lot of interest.
I'm also in the process of making a rev counter for mine for the grand total of £12, if it works I will post a thread explaining how to do the same.
 
I got a 5m roll of bitumen/lead flashing for the doors of our van as they seem to have been drum skins in a previous incarnation. It's pretty much the same as the specialist anti vibration pads but about a third of the price.

I agree with the principle, but Steve threw in 20 anti vibration pads for free as part of the deal so I might be ahead of you there!

Mission accomplished: much quieter!

I've fitted the floor covering and the engine blanket. I have yet to use the large eggbox sheet or the damping panels as I found that the under dash insulation is pretty good already. However, a quick trip up Hamble Lane and along the concrete surface of the M27 suggests that I don't have to do anything else to achieve a decent result! Even Jan noticed the difference, so I'll have to invest in another roll of duct tape!

Materials as received:


I bought a Large engine blanket and fitted it lengthways.




Cab carpet used as template, plus a bit more in the appropriate places!


The material is 8mm thick, and moulds quite well to the cab contours. I fitted a panel under the passenger seat, but my seat is full of electronics.




I had some left over so filled two of the dash panel recesses.




And the driver's footwell


Panels are undetectable

My apologies, but I was being a little tongue in cheek there. At £65.00 a sheet I'd better find a use for it!

Has anyone else found that they didn't need to augment the under dash insulation? I might put some there just for the hell of it!

Mine is a panel van conversion so possibly different, but I found the cab floor and bulkhead were very well insulated, but the doors and the engine bay ain't too great.
