advice on wildcamping spots please..

new hippys

school hols are nearly upon us and we are trying to plan our first serious attempt at touring/wildcamping, we intend to travel round the coast of cornwall and have marked several spots from the poi download, we have two young children both under 10 so we have to consider them, we are planning stops at Nare Head, Carne beach, Talland Bay, Treen and Chapel Porth with a couple of nights on site somewhere to keep the kids happy.

can anyone tell me if they have experienced or heard of any problems stopping at these spots?

any help or advice is much appreciated,

regards

We are planning to go to Cornwall soon so can't help you with the poi's you have chosen , I will however recommend you try a day at the Eden Project it's a great day out and the kids will love it.

Not wild camped in that area
Best advice I can give is
If you do not feel safe / happy/ relaxed in a given spot. move on
Park in such a way as to have the quickest easiest escape should you need to move quickly
Parked ready to drive off not having to reverse first
I have not wild camped with such young children. So can not comment on it
Other than to say I would not do it personally

Hope your holiday is a good one.
Keep us informed on what where you stay
Yours Ian

lets not get confused guys, kids are 9 and 7 and all the spot having google earthed them look ok, as for not doing it, whats the point of any of this is we don t try and enjoy it.

Wonderful holidays for children I personally would have no problem taking children on a trip no matter how young that is how they learn to be self sufficient.:baby:

Talland is lovely you should not have any problems there.
If you are fit and happy to walk down 100 or more steps then try Lantic Bay,(it is as good as the picture looks) on the road from Polperro to Polruan. There are a couple of NT car parks, signs say no overnight parking but i lived in Polperro for many years and quite often saw people there for a day or two.
The Rame peninsulla is another lovely place to stop, excellent views nice and quiet.
We are heading down that way with our 3 oldest grandchildren in August and would not hesitate to wild camp anywhere along the south east coast.

thankyou, I have been around the south west many times but never in a motorhome, our plan is a simple one, to arrive late in the day at our stop overs then spend the day in that area or close by...weather permitting it ll be great.:welcome:

I think m/home, and camping with kids is great fun, teaches them to be a little independant and most of all, no bloody space invader's ect...Enjoy it mate.!

The kids invade our space, that's why we leave them at home! They are in their twenty's though so no point in sending social services around!! :goodluck:

Godrevy

Hi Chapel Porth car park is owned by the National Trust so if you are not a member you have to pay.Talland bay is car park by the beach ? I'm in the National Trust and a good place is Godrevy N.T.car park right by the beach great for kids then at night we park in layby outside of car park or go towards Portreath there about 4 good laybys good luck Colin.

Hi, have a great time, but remember when they say 6`6" wide they mean it, also remember the height and length of your MH on the twisty and narrow roads,so take care and enjoy.

We love wild camping with our two kids one is 4 and our new born is 6 weeks old,
Like has been said tho if you don't feel happy/safe move to somewhere else,
its great fun,our 4 year old loves it

Wild in Cornwall

Things have got tighter in Cornwall in recent months - no vision. Carne is a great spot but not sure about staying overnight. Great tea room up the valley - Bollingey Mill. (I think!) Carne is great - stayed numerous times. Very quiet but a trek down to the beach. (Used to collect driftwood from it!) The other two places I don't know. An alternative could be Black Head - turn left at St Austell towards Porthpean. Left again down a lane - two parking areas - one in the first car park, the second, take the left track and brings you onto an open area with stunning sea views. Small beach over to your right.
Enjoy - the weather looks set fair.

Diplodicus

Kynance Cove is great. The NT warden goes home at 5pm and gets back at 9am. If you are a member its not a problem otherwise he knocks on your door and you pay for the day. Black water empty round the back of the toilet block and lift the drain cover AFTER 5pm ... Spectacular views, a great beach and blue blue sea ..

We also stopped at Falmouth outside the Coast Guard Station overlooking the sea.

If you are not a NT member then join the Scottish NT its half the price and lets you into all the NT Properties in the Uk ..

You'll find these in the Wild Camp POIs as CR Trenarren 1 & 2 - there's a note warning about the approach road being narrow :D
