Being new to this camper vanning thing I just wondered is there many here members of any of the caravan clubs.
I find that I can survive upto about 3 days max then need to have a shower.
I'm finding going on site for the sake of this rather expensive paying anything between £20-25 per night and wonder if there is a cheaper way of getting round this.
The Mrs also wants to use her hair dryer and straighteners so ehu is also required.
What do you experienced guys do, is there a cheap way to get facilities as the whole purpose of the wild camping is to keep costs low.

I wild camp for months. But I have the van to live in. American RV. Full spec house on wheels
Not so easy or comfortable in a small van.
You can use truck stops. Cheap overnight good showers. & food
As for the hair drier & tongs. Get a good 120AH leisure battery. And a 12volt to 240 volt inverter
My RV only cost me £17000. So it's not a case of robbing a bank to get one

A lot of public toilets have showers, for a small fee. Swimming pools and lesure centres are are good for facilities. Most caravan sites offer use of facilities without overnite stay for a small fee.

Most of the C&CC club sites have a motorhome stopover that allows use of facilities for 3 - 4 hrs.
Not sure on ehu but it allows use of showers, chemical water disposal and filling up with fresh water etc.

Last time i looked it was £7.50.

Many certified small sites, around 5 pitches offer similar facilities and are better value than Club sites.

Many excellent "Certificated Locations" (CLs) available via the Caravan Club. From £10 - £15 per night. Some have toilets, showers & even Wi-Fi. We normally wild for 3nights then have a night in a CL to empty, fill, etc. Not sure if the "whole" purpose of wild camping is to keep cost low. It's very enjoyable to be free & wild but you don't HAVE to wipe your bum with grass & shop at Lidl to enjoy it. :welcome:

CS (certified sites) are through the Camping club or,dare I mention ukcampsites.co.uk they have a sites listing.

Some of the large firms such as haven have very good deals in off peak, ie when kids are at school. Used them last sept and was aprox £5 to £7 a night inc electric.

Whats the difference between the camping and caravanning club and the caravan club?

I was with the caravan club until last week and I found that they are sometimes up their own arxes, what ever you do DONT upset the caravan club gendarmerie as you will be marched away prompt. The camping and caravan club I find more relaxed. But that is my own opinion. You know what they say about opinions? They are like arxeholes, every one has one.:rulez:

I chose this as it seems to be more suited to Motorhomes as well
As another post says the "Certified Sites" are good
1 Cheap
2 Rural ( Mainly)
3 Only 5 others
4 Facilities vary but so does the cost (YPFWYG)

Camping and ning :raofl: Seriously though they are two separate clubs with camping being encouraged by the c&cc. Some caravan club sites now welcome tents. Been a member of both for many years now as they both offer small privately run sites with 5 or so pitches at reasonable rates.

If, like me, you are a member simply to gain access to the CL/CS network (the main sites are usually very expensive) then it may help you to know that the Caravan Club network of CLs is more extensive than the C&CC network of CSs.

True most of them use ALDI and if all else fails your skin is self cleaning after about a week and the smell comes from bacteria so use antibacterial baby type wipes on your hands, face, pits and bits and if you feet start to smell go for a padle happy wilding.:lol-049:

Find a leisure centre and go for a swim, take the shampoo in the showers with you and you can dry your hair there as well

C&CC 5 van sites for me as well but failing that, get a watering can. A kettle of water in a full watering can and you have a smashing out the back of the van shower. Not good in winter :( Doubles up for fetching water as well. Ideal if you do not want to loose your spot on an Aire.
