The emissions part of the MOT requires reving the engine hard, which may snap a badly worn belt, you would be even less pleased if they broke your engine.....

cam belt
I paid £300 ish so seems to be about the going rate. But beware you may get caught out like i did at "Mr Clutch" paid and left was thinking on the way home what a smoothy full of bull character the manager was so had it checked not even done the job so had to go back and listen to more bull but after some hastle got money back and used my usuall garage who i had previously dismissed because i assumed the van was to large for him to cope with. Malc

I charge £100 plus parts ( at trade price) - civvy garages well sorry don't know as havnt used one in years

How often should the cam belt be changed ? Is it the mileage or age ? Camper vans and motorhomes don't do that much mileage, compared to cars. I was looking at at motorhome( advert only) and the belt had been changed 2 years ago. Hubby said it may need a new one. Are there any reliable examples to follow ?

The different makes and models have differing times and mileages when they recommend you change the Timing Belt.
An example would be " 5 years or 60,000 miles, which ever comes first "
Mine is a 2006 Peugeot Boxer 2.8 HDi and the recommendation is 10 years or 72,000 miles.
I personally think 10 years is a little too long so i`ve just had mine done at 8 years old to be on the safe side.
