Horrid Hymer Hooter

The hooter on Hugo is pathetic, and I'm going to improve matters somewhat. I have a 24v compressor driven horn on my boat that is one metre long and makes us sound like the QE2, so I'll be looking for something similar, but a tad smaller.... The compact Nautilus air horns look ideal but they don't get very good reviews.

This horn looks the biz, providing it fits in the engine compartment! Any suggestions? Polite ones that is.....

Looks similar to one we fitted to our old Hymer certainly an improvement

I thought that the law relating to air horns had got stricter, and modern vehicles had very tight restrictions on what was allowed.

IIRC that restriction applies to sequential note 'musical' hooters. A single tone is fine. Or it was!

the buses in Portugal used to have both, anyone in the way got a polite 'beep' and if they didn't move,a massive ''PAAAAAARRRRRPPPP!!" worked a treat and good fun for the onlookers too !

You read my mind!

I had airhorns on a van, first time I used them a middle aged couple stepped across the road in front of me without looking,at the PARPP! they both ,without once looking at me,leapt about a foot into the air, legs still moving, landed and carried on as if nothing had occurred !still makes me chuckle

I used to manufacture a SailingTimer and we used these. They were really good and instant sound. Sold about 30 of them and no one ever complained. When setting up the timer we used to tell people to stuf a rag down the trumpet. Some have been to sea in all types of weather and have survived. Uses a relay as it takes a few amps. We were really impressed.

I am liking the idea of this.... a 3m high slab of motorhome front can sometimes be missed by some people, so perhaps they may hear me instead..:lol-053:

I have triple air horns on mine because the original horn isn't as loud as my Fiat Panda or my Wife's Fiat500, very pathetic and I would rather have run somebody over than the embarrassment of sounding it, the compressor on that one is exactly the same and it has lasted 12 years, the only thing I have changed is the relay because it had bad connections due to rust, I should have put vaseline on them the first time
I fitted an isolating switch on the dashboard to use if I am on a Campsite, I have lost count of the times I caught my horn when tilting the seats to drop the bed down

We fitted a claxon air horn on ours, from ebay, sounds brill
