Fridge not recgnising 12v supply from vehicle battery.

Had problems with fridge refusing to light on gas, so OH cleaned burners etc and it was sorted out. However, now it's coming up with a fault code 9, it doesn't detect a vehicle battery, so won't work while we are driving. It's a dometic premium something or other, with a separate freezer box and electronic controls, so it will automatically source the most appropriate supply, or you can do it manually. Well, no matter how hard we try, it will not work now on the van battery. We are going away tomorrow, to a site with hook up, so we are keeping fingers crossed that it will work on EHU, but can't yet say for definite that it does. Any suggestions? (Apart from contact your dealer, which is what it says in the book.)

First thing i would try is to check the Earth Strap from the engine to the chassis.

It`s a well know fault on the X250 models and causes all sorts of problems.

Can you give a clue as to where we might find this earth strap? At the moment the ground round here is pretty wet, not really good for crawling about on, and we're not really that mechanically minded. We have had a couple of days away with fridge running on EHU but no luck still with 12v.

Fridge 12v Supply

Some converters fit a 12v Master switch on the Dashboard, have you a light in the fridge is this working OK

Can you plug in the hook up to the house or a genny to see if 240V works?

If 240V works I wouldn't bother with 12V, you can run it off an inverter while driving, that's what I do with mine. They are not very good on 12v anyway much of the time.

Mine works great on 12v when driving & will keep Ice Cream frozen, which can be useful & enjoyable. In fact, if wilding & wanting to save gas I will just run it on 12v & it stays cool enough for the basics when parked up overnight.

Light is working ok, and the fridge runs on gas or 240v. It was fine until last weekend. The electronic control panel code is saying that it is not detecting a 12v supply when the engine is running.

You need to check the voltage at the leisure battery, is it charging? If not there is a problem with the charging set up.

If it is charging (ie volts rise to around 14-15v with engine running) then check the supply to the control panel - is there a fuse in it? Might it have blown or have a poor connection? As already mentioned, there could be an earthing problem.

Is there 12V at the fridge? If not work backwards to find out why. If your leisure battery falls to 10v the control panel will shut down, but perhaps it shuts off the fridge at 12v (fridges can be a large load on a single battery).

First off the fridge should never be connected through the leisure battery (as someone posted) your battery would be flat in no time.
Ok on to your problem, all motor home fridges are run by 12v line direct from the vehicle alternator, this has an inline fuse generally within the engine compartment and being in there tends to get dirty and loses electrical contact. Clean or replace and things should be ok.
