Anyone know where I can buy 35mm square copper cable? I'm installing a Sterling B2B charger and need to run a cable from the vb to the lb. I've phoned a dozen placed and no-one seems to sell it.

WELDING CABLE 290 AMP 35MM PER METRE LUG ELECTRODE ROD | eBay

They also do red

Hi i'm doing the same job, got my cables from ( thecableguy) on ebay, or phone Gareth on 07825 812484 made to size and with connections in place BAZ.

Does it need to be 35mm, as that seems quite heavy duty? Is it a long cable run? What size alternator is charging your VB?

No I don't think it does. Looking at the previous diagram/photo I think 25mm2 copper cable should be sufficient. Instead of running a new cable, I'm thinking of splitting the current cable at the LB and connect it directly to the B2B and then connect the B2B with the LB. Will this configuration work?

No, You'll cook the cable and poss set on fire!!

You need cable capable of max continuous current flow

Someone from Roadpro said to use 35mm2, however I've just spoken to Sterling and they said I could use 16mm for a short distance or 25mm2 if over 3 metres. So not sure which to use. Techno100 said he used 25mm2.

Does anyone have a link for where I can buy 25mm+sq flexible copper cable? Thanks

I've had stuff from here and got good service VWP - battery cables

Just had a look at the sterling cable sizing charts for these and they seem very onerous, ie:- 50mm2 for up to 180amps at 0-1.5m. 50mm is good for 340amps.

Based on what you've said i'm assuming that yours is the 50amp model, if so, even 25mm2 seems quite hefty as it is good for 170amps.

I'm assuming that there may be a sensitivity of the unit to voltage drop along the cable, but even so this seems a little steep.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

25mm will be more than enough for most installations, I use cable from VWP in the previous link, ref 196 which is 196/0.40 cable. 196 strands. My max load from the leisure batts will be about 25A, max feed current 50A.

The large cables ensure minimal volt drop, the cost saving from 25mm to 16mm is negligible especially on short runs. If using large inverters then the larger cables are a good idea.

I'm not using inverters so will 16mm be adequate? I'm fitting the 45amp B2B charger from Sterling

I would guess over a run of about 4m at 50A using 16mm there would be a volt difference of a couple hundred mV ( 0.2/0.3volt) nothing to worry about.

use some old jump leads ?

You can do, however, cheap ones normally use fairly rigid cable of about 10mm and decent ones have good size flexible cable and are of more use as jump leads.

Hi there, i just got the greatest idea of them all and try to post something that i dont have a clue if its any help at all!

From sweden: when i needed rigid coppercables (35mm square) a couple of years ago i learned that boatpeople must use a lot of cable, and i drove to the shop that sell boatstuff and it was like heaven for me.
The wall in the shop was full of premade cables in lots and lots of lenghts and diameters, and i could by 35 mm cable and some connectors that i thought i could need and the best part: the rented me the tool for squeese (press? jam?) for something like 5 euro.

What i am trying to say is that if you have an boatshop or marina somewere near you it could be a good idea to see them.
My guess is that boatpeople and their shops would be similar in sweden and Uk in many ways, but still just a guess! :)

best regards jocke, without boat! (well just a couple of small ones... and one inflatable) :D
