A Quick Getaway......Why ?

I dont worry about it too much but it isnt a bad idea. Last year on a Stellplatz near Triberg in the Black Forest in the middle of the night we were visted by a nutter trying to get in the van. We were awoken around 2 or 3 am by somone skulking around and then trying the door. This escalated to an angry voice shouting in some strange language and trying to get in. There were about four other vans about and he tried a couple of them as well. I called the police and shouted that I was calling them and he eventually disappeared. The coppers turned up, had a drive about but we never saw or heard the nutter again.

Complacently I had parked the van nose on against a tree and parked the scooter right behind the van off the rack so I couldnt go anywhere. Now when wilding I tend to leave the bike on the rack so I can drive away if necessary. Not sure what I would do after a case of Leffe but I would be out of it so probably would be blissfully unaware! :D
 
We had to get up & move quick last year. We were parked in a town in Spain - looked a decent area, but we had the bikes on the back. 1 am, & we heard quite a lot of noise - local teenagers just having a laugh, dossing as they do, but then we got a couple of bangs on the side of the van - ignored it, then sneeked a peek & realised there were a lot of them, & looking our way. Another bang on the side of the van - probably to see if there was anyone in before they broke in. Their faces were a picture when we pulled down the screens from the inside & drove off.
Another time we parked up in the early hours & a bit later a car full of "people" pulled up at the side of us - we didn't like the look of them, so again took down the inside screens & moved on.
Personally I feel much happier if I can move away quickly. OH thinks I am too cautious, but to me its far better safe than sorry.
 
I think the biggest issue especially when you end up on tarmac car parks is the boy racer, annoying F ing teenagers etc etc. I try very hard to avoid these places and actively seek out rural places where this is unlikely to happen.

However. Do you remember the Bond film where the machine gun came out of the roof of the car (could be grenade launcher, whatever) and just turned until it locked onto the enemy and then blew them away? I reckon if a few of us got some of them mounted in the Luton and used them the days of hassle by the great Jeremy Kyle audience / annoying pond life of this world would be over. What do you reckon?
 
A lot of vans do not have the payload to carry a .50 calibre machine gun Barry. :(

We would not want to be illegal would we? :)
 
i'm sure i read recently that you're not supposed to kill teenagers legally,best check with the local plod.health and safety probably, worried about ricochets

Or would it be better to make a taser from scratch
I bet somebody here would know how to make one
 
if you shoot the buggers youll be in no end of trouble and jail..... drive over them and its arguably an unfortunate motoring accident and at worst a fine.

I'm sure between us we can rig up something bl***y painful but legal(ish) with an electic fence. I've been watching the program "Wartime Farm". There must be loads of old 12 volt fencing controllers around.:danger::danger:
 
is it commonly known,that were one to nick a large extinguisher from a garage forecourt,and unscrew the top,one would find it full of white powder. if one then tipped out the powder and substituted the contents of one's cassette toilet,then upon replacement of the lid,one would have a devastating chemical weapon.this could be deployed against cars with open windows containing young men with open mouths,or through the letterboxes of neighbours who get on one's tits

Im sure I remember watching a program where some shops put a sonic device up that only teenagers could hear. Drove them away but us oldies couldnt hear it.

Where can I get one?

You mentioned the guidelines...where can I find the wild camping guidelines please, the leaflet that came with my wild camping stickers suggest looking at the wcg but I can't find them - probably really obvious and I'm being a wally!

I would think that if anyone wanted to prevent you leaving in a hurry all they need do is park their own (or a stolen) vehicle right in front of you, unless you mean that you would park in the middle of an open space.

Again you can only make assumptions on a case by case basis, for them to block you in they would have to be expecting you to try to drive away. Ideally you would position yourself with space in front & behind but I wouldn't get paranoid about it as somebody else said they could easily let don the tyres or block the wheels. To me it is just a sensible precaution to have an exit plan & try to put your van in a favourable position. It is just the same as locking your vehicle & putting the alarm on, you never really want to find out how effective these measures are. If somebody wants to get into your van badly enough there is very little you can do to prevent them but does that mean we shouldn't bother locking the doors?:lol-053:
